Hey guys,

I have been losing a small amout of anti-freeze of the period of two months. It's enough to make the warning light come on. I don't see any puddles on the ground so that takes me to the next question.

How do I tell if it's the heater core?

It's not leaking in the cabin, but it is slightly fogging up the windshield and I smelled it the other day. This is how I know to tell that it's the heater core.

So any thoughts are welcome

Thanks

If you can stand driving without heat for a while, you could bypass the heater core.

After a week passes, see if you've lost any more coolant.

Doing that will give you a better clue as to whether the leak is in the heater core or not.

check the radiator side caps (go look you'll see) there black plastic and they usually leak where they meet the alum radiator. hearer cores arnt a easy DIY or cheap to pay someone to do it either. you can smell a coolant leak from anywhere, the heater core is a pretty strong smell

Not really an option till I know what the weather will do. Stupid Il weather.

I will look for the side caps tomorrow after work. I read that the heater core was pita to do. The smell was strong like it was in the car.

What else would cause the windshield to fog up when then heat was on though?

might sound kinda funny but the fog was on the inside? i remember your thread where it fogged and you ditched it, so im just wondering if the fog was inside the windshield. if a heater hose leaks ive seen where it will actually mist the outside, making it look like fog. and for the smell, well your heater box pulls fresh air from the pass side along the base of the windshield, best bet is to get a psi tester, pump that sucker up and start lookin for a leak. if its coming out the ac drain, then im sad to inform you more than likely your heater core is shot. ive also seen where a heater hose will leak at the clamp and even spray coolant over the heatercore, not through it, duplicating all the symptoms of a heater core

Yeah, I'm sure it was on the inside I touched it both times (still the fingerprints to prove it lol) I will have to try the pressure test. Thanks

its getting a little warmer... time to bypass and see what happens is just around the corner... if all else fails wait it out til the temp goes up

Man were suposed to get snow this weekend. I dont think summer is ever going to get here

My first thing to check would be Vapor Lock. Im basing this on no puddle. The fluid has to be going somewhere if its leaking. I suggest you change your antifreeze PROPERLY according to the directions on the right side of the engine compartment.

You can also put it on a rack and see if there is any sign of leakage.

Thanks for the info guys and no there isint any sign of leakage that I can see. But I hardly ever get to park in a spot where i would notice anything on the ground.

Thats why you put it up on a rack. If there is a significant leak, it'll be noticable from there.

But, my money is still on vapor lock
