I have just recently come into possesion of a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. I must say this is by far my favorite care I have ever owned. I am a street racer at heart and I need more power. I want to know two things if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. I want to know if it is possible to swap out one of two engines with automatic transmissions I have in mind. I would like to swap take the 5.4 liter supercharged engine with 4 speed automatic transmission from a 2003 Ford SVT Lightning. If that is not possible I would like to swap out a 2003 4.6 liter supercharged engine from a Mustang cobra, and use a GT automatic transmission. Any input on what would need to be done is much appreciated.

I'm fairly new to the mod motors myself (Just got my first Mark VIII about 2 months ago).
I don't know about the tranny's on either but although the Lightning's 5.4 should bolt right in it has a taller deck height because of the stroke which will cause problemsif you want the hood to close. The Cobra motor should bolt right in though since all the dimensions should be identical. I don't know if you would change anything else i.e. wiring, accessories mounts.
But if it can be done the Cobra's gonna be the easier of the two.

Wish I could be of more help.

There is a guy that installed a supercharged engine from a 2003 Mustang Cobra into a 97 Mark VIII.

Thanks

Thats exactly what I needed to know, Im going to go with the 2003 cobra motor. I will swap out the stock supercharger and pop in the Whipple supercharger, and throw in a bunch of other little goodies. Ill probably wind up with around 600 Hp and 580 lbs of torque, but who knows for sure until I get it on the dyno tester. Thanks everyone for your input, expect to see a 97 Mark VIII doing low 11 second quarter miles before the year is up.

Gj on plannin on doing the swap, though you wont be the first to swap, or run 11s lol.

btw... the Lightning uses the E4OD, which is one of the longer modern trannies in ford's inventory. I'm unsure what the Mark runs, but I'm will to bet it's an AOD based tranny (AOD, AODE, 4R70W)... and that is most certainly shorter than the E4OD. Which means not only a different rear mounting point, but shortened drive-shaft. However, the E4OD in factory form is easily the strongest auto tranny ford has put together since the C4 and C6.
