Finally yesterday I decided to change my plugs, everything went as smooth as it can go, specially the drivers side, wow!!!

When I got to the passenger side, the plug closest to the fire wall to my surprise it had oil in it, I could not believe it.

I'm assuming that means I have to replace the valve cover gaskets.

Can someone verify if that's the case.

Thanks

You definitely need to replace the valve cover gasket (at least on that side), and it would probably be a good idea to replace that COP, as well. Oil in the plug well is normally a sign that the COP is on the road to failure.

Yes. VCG on passenger side definitely needs to be replaced. If we are talking the V8, On the bright side, the passenger side VCG job is an easy DIY job. Drivers side is a bit tougher, especially those back bolts by the firewall.

COP = Coil On Plug.

Since you have a 2003, look up that extended warranty on the COP failures; you may be able to get Lincoln to pay for this. I don't remember if they're covering the gasket failures or just the COP failures.

I might be in luck, I will let you guys know tomorrow.

Just went through my warranty papers for the Lincoln.
And guess what?? Valve Cover, Seals, and Gaskets are covered under the warranty, that expires January 1, 2010.
No mistypo, 2010 it is.

I'm going to call them just to make sure.

Here is the link to the coverage that I have, I have the base plan.

In luck I was.
All covered under warranty.
I asked the guy how much it would have cost me if I didn't have warranty.
He says $500-600, I turn around and for a 2 hour job, he starts going, well you have to take the valve cover off replace the gasket, etc, etc, etc.

Does anyone know how much the valve cover gaskets are????

I want to say I paid about $90 for the full kit on each side... I think...

(my 03 had the gray, junk gaskets)
