Well, my neon light finally went out, and I didn't hesitate finding another one. When I purt the new neon brake light in, it only comes on when I press the brake. Did I miss something?

Ya, you missed the ballast. The neon rarely goes bad, its the ballast that goes. Did you replace the ballast?

So two ballasts and two lamps? Or just swap out one ballast? It would be odd to have two bad sets.

Unity you're not getting it. I replaced the ballast. It works. But....only when I press the brake. Not when i turn on the lights.

Try going back and checking all of you connections ,grounds ,solder points ,wiring ect.
Sometimes its the easy things that are a pain in the ass.

Common guys. I need some help. Why would the neon light come on when I press the brakes, but not when I turn on the light? What am I missing?

from another site: "There should be 2 wires, one for parking lights and another for when you hit the brake, a third wire is for the ground. Make sure you got both hooked up correctly."

OK, I took some pictures from different angles. Everything is connectected. I just cannot get the light to come on. Only when I press the brake. I don't see what is not connected.

I got a different ballast, this one works. Apparantly there are two mechanisms in the ballast. One for the brake light, and one to constantly stay on. Anyone heard of this?

the fuse box is almost the same as Town Car , IE at least 3-4 fuses that have to do with LCM ......

I had no break lites I checked the fuse that said "brake" it was cool.
then changed the switch at the peddle , still no brake lights .
I ended up sitting on the ground and pulling every fuse out, fourth to the last fuse I checked was burn out .

so check all 20 amp (yellow?) fuses

Buddy the ballast was just bad. I already put another one in and it works great.

let me help, if im understanding correctly, gman bought a used OEM ballast, that had a glitch in it, and got another OEM ballast and it worked-right?

"glitch" is a member of .org that makes replacement ballasts (hence the confusion)

Ahhhh, I can see clearly now the rain has gone.:D Yes Chicken you are correct. My original ballast failed, I found another one, which had a "glitch" in it (Not to be confused with member "glitch);) ). The second ballast didn't light up. It only lit up when the brake was pressed. I have been told that there are essentially to lighting sources in the ballast. one for the constant light, and one for the brake.
