I have read several post about what a PITA changing the t-stat was. I figured that I was in for a really tough job. Was I wrong, It was a total piece of cake guys! You simply drain the radiator, loosen the two bolts on the t-stat housing, one you can easily remove and the other you just need to use a swivel, move the seperated housing over to the passengers side a bit, take old t-stat out! To put it back in just put a very small amount of rtv on top of the outer flange of the t-stat, just enough to hold it in place, then slip the o-ring in, put the top and bottom sections back together and tighten up.

That's it! you're done in 15-20 minutes tops. I have not always agreed with Geno however he was 100% dead on about the t-stat being a easy job. You don't even have to disconnect any of the hoses.

I then filled her back up with antifreeze and distilled water through the cross over tube, started her up and kept squeezing the radiator hoses to get the air out for about 5 minutes. Sealed her up and drove for 30 minutes, came back and let cool down. Checked cross over tube and was full to the top with no air at all.

I hope this will help someone who has to change their t-stat. Don't worry!!! It's easy!:)

You might have lucked out because the bolt on the housing are lock-tited together from the factory. When I turned the bolt the whole housing turned. I had to stop before the hoses busted off. Maybe the bolts on yours had already been broken?

Hmmm, Maybe you guys are from back east or some other place where rust/corrosion is an issue? The housing did twist a bit but the bolts came out fine. Couldn't you just hit it with a little penitrating oil and clamp a set of vise grips onto the housing to hold it while loosening the bolts?

Anyway, My main point was that the bolts are easily accessible. If the bolts come out then it will be a snap!

For stubborn bolts soak'em with PB Blaster then run the car to operating temp and they will crack right off. 10 minute job is correct.

A very EZ job!! You should leave the bolts in, until they'er broke lose and then take them out. But most of the time the housing is stuck in place after the bolts are removed, and the housing needs a little tap with a hammer.

EZ job here done two of them... have not had any troubles except on the first one the pic in the shop manual has the T-Stat up side down... so I put it in up side down...
