Hey guys my steering wheel isn't shut fully closed i noticed today. I guess the people looking at the air bag unit didn't click it or something but there is like .5 inch gap under the bottom of my steering wheel. How do i click it back ? I don't wanna break anything so might as welll ask before i do anything. Its the front cover with the lincoln symbol on it.

I am guessing that it's normal, because that where you move it to honk your horn. LS steering wheel is very crappy especially the 00-02 ones and the airbag doesn't sit tight at all.

would be good if you posted a picture. Or go to ebay and look at some other 00-02 LS' pictures and compare to yours.

Is it like mine in the pics in the following thread? If it is, it's normal.

So this ain't right eh.... i will prolly go dealership. I think they just put it on wrong because i have no air bag light or anything. Meh minor issue for me haven't even noticed for months till now. So you guys think it wasn't screwed on properly. Should i try or just go to the dealership....don't wanna set of an airbag....lol

Why don't you take it off and put it back properly. Easy.

Im scared...lol....:( Won't the air bag go off.... how do i take it off i haven't found anything helpful or pics. Are there screws holding it or something?

no, it won't.

Remove the negative from the battery. Then there are 2 little grey covers on back of the wheel, remove those. There should be 2 screws there, maybe with star tool you will remove em and adjust the airbag.

what is the star tool? So unplugging the battery will prevent the air bag from deploying?

yes it will. You know the one that has like 6 sides and some are star shaped. I don't know exactly how it's called, I think Allen tool.

O allen tool those l thingys... ight bro imma try this so those 2 screws are holding that front cover or w.e then i just push it in and should be flush. Lol i did alot of stuff on cars before but never messed around with a steering wheel...lool

my steering wheel looks the same from the front. but when i saw the side shots, you can really see up in their behind the cover, never noticed that on my car, i'll do some looking once i get it back.

Ight thanks i guess the way hylife said seems pretty easy.... imma try it hopefully i don't fuk up anything. Does that part usally move fairly easy in and out?

yeah i didn't notice till now and had the car for a couple months....

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Pry off the two plastic caps on the back of the steering wheel that cover two bolts, not allen, or torque.
Remove the bolts, I don’t remember what size, and the airbag comes off but is attached by wires.
Reset the airbag correctly, refasten the bolts, and put the covers back on.
Your done.

Well i loosened the botls and took them out. I DIDN'T actually take out the whole airbag unit just pushed it in a good position re bolted, the bottom still came up a bit. It made a difference but not much. Do i actually have take out the whole unit and put it back in? Cuz all i did was unbolt the bolts and push it in and bolted it up. How do i reset the airbag? What wires? Is it hard or fairly easy because i don't wanna fuk anything up...pretty paranoid when i work on this car...unlike my other cars...lol

The air bag wires must not be out of the way. Try again, the wires are long enough for the air bag to move aside, see what is in the way.

Nothing to reset and not that hard.

I took mine off to clean the horn contacts when the horn was not that responsive.

Don’t forget to DISCONECT THE GROUND FROM THE BATTERY before start procedure and reconnect when done.
