is it good to put royal purple oil in my 2002 lincoln ls i have 55,000 miles on it?

You have to be careful when switching to full syn. I am running ams oil in mine now, but it only had 17000 when i got it. I run royal purple in my truck, before i had it rebuild i was running syn and it leaked bad.

If your engine leaks or uses oil now, it will use more syn. For an engine in good condition, a syn oil will work just fine.

Way back in the 70s and 80s, syn had a problem with the old style seals etc and would cause leaks. That problem has been cured years ago. Now it is just a question of whether you already have a leak.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

I used RP in my '02 from day one. Now with my '06, same thing.

I started using mobil 1 full synthetic in my 02 at 19K. It now has 59K and no problems. I switched my 99 F-150 0ver at 100K with no problems. I switched wife's Pathfinder over to semi-synthetic at 81K no problems. I switched my wife's 93 grand cherokee to semi-synthetic at 138K miles...problems as follows... HUGE oil consumption problems after 3K turned out to be valve guide seals. Oil pan, valve cover, and rear main seal oil leaks. Still has small oil consumption problem now despite excellent compression now 154K.

In all honesty? I've used almost every kind of oil out there. Castrol dino 10w-40 every 7k in an 80's Jetta that I put 135k miles on. No engine issues when I sold it. Castrol 20w-50 every 7k in a later (89) Jetta that I put 90k on with no engine issues.

Mobil 1 every 10k on a 318is (hard working 4 cylinder) that I had from 1992 to 1999 with 130k on the clock when I wrecked it. (no oil related engine issues). Factory Motorcraft oil every 5k for the first 50k of the life of my old V6 LS, then mobil 1 every 10k until I sold it at around 70k miles. No engine issues.

Same regimen for this V8 LS, except I save a few bucks by using the SuperTech Walmart brand synthetic...every 10k miles. Engine purrs along just fine at 87k miles.

And my brothers daily commuter...a 1993 325i with about 210k miles or so on it has used mobil 1 every 10-15k (as of late, its more like 15k intervals)..and the engine still fires up and runs strong. No smoke, nothing.

So based upon my experiences, there is a LOT of marketing hype amongst all of the oils.

Not really, if you can get the Royal Purple at the cheapest price, IMO its worth the extra milage you can put on it. And doing it yourself makes all the difference.

For the record, I wouldn't buy a Wal-Mart synthetic ever, I just could not trust it.

Anyway, I just use Motorcraft from the dealer since I don't have to pay for it, seems to work well.

LOL. It's from a major Petroleum distributor, with additive packages that give it a rating which exceeds Lincolns oil recommendation specs. In many tests, it's actually proven itself superior to some of the major brands marketed to us. (and those marketing costs passed on to consumers of those major oils)

It's not like Sam Walton's kids developed SuperTech in the back of Walmart and stuck it in a bottle. :D (If I went into a store and saw a bottle of synthetic called "Gay Motor Oil" for 2.00 a quart, I'd buy it as long as it exceeded manufacturers recommendations and had been tested to perform as expected. I could care less about fancy TV commercials and marketing hype)

Check the label next time you are in there for the specs. And price. You might be surprised.

But cant one think that this is marketing garbage as well?

My main purpose for useing RP is that you can keep it for 3 times the amount of changes that some people go by.

Exactly, marketing garbage......

Call me crazy, but count me out on the Wal-Mart oil dude.....if I wanted that I'd dig it out of the storm drains.

It meets a standard yes, it all must meet a standard but its only worth what you pay for it and that is the minimum standard required, so yes if I wanted the minimum I would use it but I want better so Ill pay for it. That is the whole reason why some decide to use RP because you get the 75$-90$ a case worth of cash out of it.

I'm on your side here man.....

RP is a great oil.

I just would not buy that other garbage no matter what "standards" it says it meets or exceeds.

LOL. The experts are right..reading comprehension in America is at an all time low. :-)

I clearly said above "exceeds Lincolns (actually Fords) minimum requirements for oil".

As far as "marketing hype". Viscosity ratings and ASE/API aren't marketing lables. They are government specifications. with regards to the specifications..from the label from a quart of SuperTech 5w-30:

"Exceeds API SM/CF, ILSAC GF-4, ACEA A1-02 and previous API gasoline engine classifications including SL, SJ, SH, and ILSAC GF-3."

Now your homework assignment: Find out the oil spec requirements for the LS, then compare to the above..and compare to the factory recommended Motorcraft synthetic blend.

Then bash...from an educated perspective.

;-)

Next time I want a copy and paste assignment I'll be sure to ask you, ok?

The oil is still garbage no matter what you or Sam's Club (Wal-Mart) says.

Actually, NONE of that was cut and paste. Want to use google to verify? ;-)

And what..no basis to substantiate your argument I take it? No scientific data? No documented facts disputing the SM rating and the fact that it exceeds Fords requirements?

Didnt think so.

*flex*

Enjoy the labor day weekend!

Ok, well then running out to your garage, grabbing an oil jug and reading and typing what it says, same difference.

*mega flex*
