So today I was zooming along just find when I noticed my car hesitated for a second, like it slipped a gear or something while going about 35 with OD off. Actually for the past three weeks the car felt wrong.
Anyway, so today I then came to a stop and that was that. I press gas, no go. Car wont climb above 600 RPM and as I apply gas it wants to stall. It was JUST like I had the intake tube off. The smell of fuel was strong.
With the little power I had I got it to the side of the road and out of the intersection. It stalled, but I got it started again and pulled into a lot.
I pop the hood expecting a major vacuum leak - nothing noticeable. It was running fine at idle but any climb in RPM would result in a near stall.
So I turned it off to try restarting it. Nothing, turns over but no go.
As a last idea, I do the unplug/plug of the crank position sensor and all is good. Fires right up and plenty of power.
Just thought I would share. The general idea I have read in the forums many times is that the car will run fine with a failed crank position sensor once its started, but will easily cause a no start issue. I think I even read you can unplug it once the car starts. Seeing as this is what the engine reads for timing, I find that odd.
Anyway - stupid sensor! Freaked me out. Now I know what I will be doing next weekend......
