I brought it in for service, it was in Thursday to today (Wed.). All for a CEL that I am told was coils. It was sputtering when I gave it any gas and would intermittentely sputter at idle. Well I get the car back, drive it home fine. Go out about 2 hours later and it's doing the same exact thing, possibly even worse but with no CEL this time. Sputtering if I give any gas at cruising speed, on take off, and about every 3-5 seconds at idle. I wish this car would get nailed or explode already so I can just collect insurance on this American Pile of Sh*t.

Thought it was funny too that the day after I bring it in for service I get a letter from Ford about the Recall/TSB or whatever the fu*k it is, about the warranty extension for coils on 03's.
This car has single handedly convinced me to never buy a Ford product until they get their heads out of their asses. And even then they would need to offer me a free car. And even then I would be reluctant to take it.
 
The mechanic definately didn't clean the oil out of the plug wells, happened to me too.
 
Man o man I know how you feel.

You should be able to get a refund for the repair expense from Ford and I would take the car back and ask them to correct the failed repair. If they fail to meet warranty on the work open a case with Ford Cust Care.

Luckily it's under warranty until the 29th of this month but they extended the coil warranty anyway for my year. This car is ridiculous. All of the windows rattle, my rear pass. speaker makes a clicking sound whenever I accelerate or just drive normal for that matter. I'm taking it to a different dealership this time If someone wants to tow it away from my house, and strip/destroy it "without my knowledge" please feel free.
 
I swear it is enough to make a grown man cry! I obcess over rattles and am still learning how to live with them. My G35 rattled in all sorts of places and it drove me insane. I bought the car with 1 mile on it and by about 100 miles the rattles began.

The dealer worked pretty hard to get rid of them and I tried like hell to get rid of them. I felt like the little dutch boy trying to stop the leak by sticking his finger in the dike. I had my finges in nine holes and one on the steering wheel. Not fun!

Now the audio system I just wouldnt be able to ignore it amplies way too much, it screws up the in flight entertainment. Have you taken it in to be checked out?


Luckily it's under warranty until the 29th of this month but they extended the coil warranty anyway for my year. This car is ridiculous. All of the windows rattle, my rear pass. speaker makes a clicking sound whenever I accelerate or just drive normal for that matter. I'm taking it to a different dealership this time If someone wants to tow it away from my house, and strip/destroy it "without my knowledge" please feel free.
 
No, the speaker noise actually just started the same exact time the coils went bad. I doubt it's related but....? Possibility or no?

Funny, I took it in to the dealer to get a really bad rattle checked out on the rear speaker deck. I explained that whenver the bass would hit or I would go over a bump I would get a rattle from the driver side of the speaker deck. They had the car for 2 days before they gave it back saying they couldn't find it. AMAZINGLY after an hour of searching myself found it. It was the plastic ring inside the speaker grille on the rear speaker deck. I just pushed the little tabs in to hold the ring tighter. I doubt they even tried, probably just joyrode the entire time listening for it. Guess they'll ceritfy anyone as a Ford mechanic these days. They certainly need the extra help with how sh*tty they build cars these days.

I had the same problem with my speakers. They kept rattleing every time bass hit or i would hit a bump. I couldnt get the ring and speaker cover to stay in place and not rattle, but some double sided molding tape fixed that!

I also had the same issue with the coils. I have had my car for a little over a year now and it was shuttering and hesitating due to bad coils untill just recently. I took it to a shop a few time and they replaced 2 coils all 3 times. I also replaced a few of the boots myself. The car would run fin for a day or two and then start acting up again. I finaly got tired of it and ordered 8 new coils and boots and complete valve cover gasket kits and did the work myself so i know it was done right. No more hesitation, its like a whole new car now!

I still need to fix my airbag light, it has been on for a few weeks now. I checked the plug under the seat, and sure enough one of the wires was disconected. I fixed the connection but the light is still on. I completly took out the stock yellow plug and put some quick connect wire connectors on instead to make sure i had a good connection, but that was a no go as well, lights still on. It's realy starting to piss me off now.
 
Why are you raging about the Valve Cover Gaskets leaking when 95% of the people on here have already experienced this?

Didn't you know this was going to happen? Did you ask them what work they did on your car? I'm assuming they just swapped out the coils that were bad, never cleared up the oil in the plug wells and completely neglected the fact that MOST Lincoln LSes have or have had leaking valve cover gaskets.

Did you even mention to them that there's a possibility there could be oil in the plug wells or that you know a lot of these cars have problems with the valve cover gaskets?

I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SMARTASS, NONE OF US SHOULD. When I bring my Ford Vehicle into a Ford dealership to be worked on by a Ford mechanic, I shouldn't have to tell them how to do their fu*king jobs should I? If it's such god damn common problem they should know how to do this like the back of their fu*king hand right?

I do know it was bad coils but all I SHOULD know is that when I bring my car in for such a common problem, I should walk out of there satisfied, THE FIRST TIME. If the guy who was working on it didn't know, there are plenty of other mechanics there to help him and if mere mortals like us can find out this information, then they sure as fu*k should have it too.
 
I agree. we shouldn't have to tell them how to do the job which is clearly defined for them in the TSB's, Oasis, Shop Manual and online here at LvC.

Car will have problmes but something that reoccurs at the rate this does shouldn't require us the consumer to tell them the tech's how to do their job. Jeez if anything I have always heard do not go in there trying to tell them what or how.

I didn't think my car had the problem and this is my second lincoln and I have well over 150k miles of drive time in them. I went in telling what I didn't think my problem was and it turned out to be just that.

Rattles are covered by Lincoln's warranty too. Get them taken care of before it's too late.

I really hope that the dealer gave you a loaner/rental while your car was in for warranty repairs. Lincoln will provide one for you no matter how long the repairs take.

yup you shouldnt have to tell them that you got bad coils or to check for oil or to replace the head gaskets with new ones, they should know that by now.
 
I have said this before and Ill do it again. The funny thing here is all we have to do to figgure the solution and the problem out is do a search on GOOGLE and we find tons of posts in one link that leads to this website. Now, for some reason it takes the mechanics a few returns and a bad attitude from a customer to go and call ford and seek some info via TSB. Finaly they find out its the COP issue, it just makes my brow lift ever so slighty to the upper left to the fact that 7 out of 10 LS's have this issue..( 00-02 ).. and the mechanics take so long to figgure it out by now.

My service was amazing and my car is great, it was done right the first time, and I wasn't being a smart ass. Also, I never once said "tell the techs how to do their job", but most people talk to the techs about what work has been done, what they are planning on doing, and what to look out for.

If you had complained about the service you received being :q:q:q:qty and not the CAR being :q:q:q:qty, I wouldn't have even posted a reply.

Do you even know what tech worked on your car?

Once again, this is in the calmest tone possible, so don't freak out and caps lock. You come here to bitch about your car, when in fact it, has nothing to do with the car, just the service you received.

Yeah...a Taurus. And they better give me another. I am going to a different shop this time where I go to buy parts and they have always been more than friendly. Probably because it's not just a Ford dealer, it's a Lincoln Mercury dealer too.

When I picked the car up I brought in the Ford notice I got in the mail about the coils the day after I brought it in, and they had no idea any sort of thing was released. They looked it up and found it, I forget what they called it. Wasn't a TSB or recall, started with a C.
 
Nickanderson, I have actualy myself gone in and got 2 fixed the right way along withe the gasket the first time, ( well after a few times returning till they found out it was the COP's, then when they knew what it was they fixed it right ) and had to go back a second and get all 8 plus the gasket. Both times were not related to each other in anyway.

I think we all might share the common problems so we can complain about that but some that have it resolved do have it resolved the first time as others just dont live near any good mechanics I guess.:) But when you have the same reacuring problem and dont have a reliable mechanic, that just sucks!

My first post I was complaining about both the service and quality of these cars. Firstly this should not happen to a car...but it does. Secondly...when it happens it should be fixed the first time, especially after taking 5 working days to fix it!!!!

As far as I am concerned that is telling them to do their jobs because that is how majority of mechanics see it. You bring your car to them to have a service performed because they know how to perform that service profesionally and timely and if the customer knows so well how to do it themselves, then why don't they just do it.

Yes I do know what tech worked on my car and service advisor and shop manager. I have had nothing but problems with the service I have received there unfortunately. And because I know so many of them I do not have the heart to go and tell them what a sh*tty job they are doing because they do a lot of stuff for me for completely free like new tires and brakes. All that aside, their job is first and foremost a mechanic. And they are doing me no "free" service since I can have this done at another shop under warranty which is what I intend to do now.

I'll complain about whatever I want, whether it's coils or bad service. Forums are to share opinions. And I am sharing mine, and defending mine.
 
If it takes telling them that you want the plugs, plug wells and valve covers checked for oil leaks, the boots checked for cracks and coils checked for misfiring to get things working right, what's the big deal? You're going in there an informed customer which can only help get you your car repaired the right way. I can understand bringing the car in for stuff like coils and whatnot, but why even bother with a rattle? Granted, rattles are annoying and my car rattles the doors or windows when I'm driving, but for the rattling rear shelf that can easily looked at by you and save yourself the aggravation of dealing with dealer techs. Honestly, if that letter didn't come in the mail recently for the coils, I was going to buy 8 coils/boots, plugs and valve cover gaskets and just bang them out all at once on my own dime - even though my warranty covers them - just because I didn't want to deal with dropping the car off, etc. But now that I have it in writing, it's getting dropped off and taken care of by them.

Anyhoos...sucks that you're going through all this drama. I think the fact that you found out the car was in an accident and all that doesn't help your dislike of the car. If I still had the ability and connections, I'd help the car umm, you know :shifty: this way I'd have extra parts for me. :D
 
so hold up you had bad service there before and still took your car back there WOW, and also my brother works for acura and sometimes he works on my car when he gets a chance but just becouse the dealership had it for 5 days does not mean that they was working on it for 5 days, that happened to me one time and they only worked on my car 2 of the 5 days they had it and im not including the weekend, but hey atleast i had a mustang as a loaner car, take the car to the other shop hopefully they can give you better service, or just call ford service dept, if you call them i guarantee they will fix it right after ford calls them.

The accident doesn't sway me all that much. I just expect a luxury car company to treat their customers accordingly. I will go to the new dealership, with that letter in hand and explain my problem in a calm manner. I really have no other choice because I am not doing this myself. Everything I touch seems to turn to sh*t. And if the warranty is going out soon and I mess something up, I do not want to drop another dime into this car.
I didn't bring the car in for just that rattle. I brought it in because it had a nasty belt squeak. Which was fixed for about 2 weeks. Brought it again, went away for a few days. Finally I told them to flat out take care of it while they were doing the coils. This time it seems to be fixed but for how long....who knows. He said the belt was walking on the alternator pulley. Another simple problem that took 3 tries to get fixed and I don't even know yet if it's fixed for sure.


Yeah, they are friends at that dealer so call it loyalty or stupidity, probably both. But either way, it should have been fixed the first time, the right way. It's also 30 min away in Philadelphia and my local dealer is right down the street.
 
Alright, so I take it to the new dealer and they won't touch the car. Unbeleivable. They say they won't touch it since if the previous mechanic at my regular dealership F'd something up I would have to pay out of pocket then fight the dealer for reimbursement.

Tell me about it. So back up there I go.


Side note: Anyone have a rear license surround for an 03+ and/or will an 00-02 rear license surround fit the 03+? Also any year grille if its the right price. I hate my color matched ones and mclaren grille. Going in the trash.
