I have a few 2 gig scan disks I want to store music on them but I can only store 150 songs or about 500 meg of songs. I have about 1/4 of the memory left... what am I doning wrong or how can I get more songs on the cards... need info by monday as I'm leaving on a motorcycle trip.. my CD player used Scan Disk cards... I want more music to take along... (5300 miles of music).
 
Sometimes a storage unit like an SD card or external hard drive doest store exactly how much it says because it stores other little things on it like how its formatted or other little information. Like a 1g ipod store a little under a gig because it stores other info like formatting options. Hope that helps. I noticed that too before that something doesnt always store as much as it says and im pretty sure i read somewhere thats why.

Right I understand that... but I'm only getting about 1/4 of memory used.. I have 3/4 left... I tried saving a collection of music as a file and it save all 800 songs.. But the player can't open the file to get at the songs. I have to save each song as it's on file.
 
mp3 is smaller than wma's. You can try reformatting whatever your saving them too and putting them on all as mp3 again.
 
I'll do my best remember I'm an old fart so I don't get heavy into the mp3 thing.. being able to rip my cd's on to scan disk cards is high tech. LOL....

I like that my music doesn't skip while on my motorcycle as my old unit on my motorcycle was a tape player. (who has tapes anymore,,, oh that's right Frogman has 8-tracks). Anyway his player is great for the bike..
 
8 Track? As old as he is, he might have a phonograph mounted on his tank.

What are the cards formatted as? FAT16 or FAT32?


When the cards are freshly formatted, how much available "disk" space do they have?

What are you playing these cards in? I've never heard of a portable CD player that takes any sort of jump drive media (CF card, SD card, etc).
 
I have an in dash unit that has a USB port and a slot for SD's...

I installed it on my motorcycle to replace the OEM tape player.

I'm not sure of the format as I just took them out of the package then put them in the computer. Then copied some files to them...

They play great in my player just want to fill the cards to capacity.
 
to format

insert card
my computer
right click the card under removable storage
select format

capacity should be 2gb
file system = FAT32
Allocation unit size = default
try it with quick format first(faster)
if not regular(quick not checked)

are you putting them on the card with media player? if so try saving mp3 to your harddrive then drag and drop them on the card in windows explorer
 
Na.. I really like this unit... I'm a bit old school in some ways I guess... plus this unit I go for a lot cheaper than an Ipod...

Seeing how the formating goes.... Let you know in a few..
