Hey, new to the forum here, but am finding it very useful.
I have a few problems with my 01 LS V8 with 120,000 miles. I have owned the car for 3 months and it was under warranty for 3 months. During that time, the car had been to the shop a total of 7 times, 5 to get fixed. It was in 3 times due the the ever popular valve cover leak. Now I believe, that is fixed. The tranny was completely rebuilt and is working well now. However, this morning after it was running for 5 minutes, the check engine light came on. I'm a bit worried because I have a warranty for about 7 days. But anyway...

My problems are as follows: (and I look for suggestions)

1. Back right speaker blown out (Alpine system)
2. Back right window tint peeling off (where do i replace that?)
3. Driver's seat doesn't heat
4. Also, I had the ball joints replaced but the car still makes a more subdued but still uncomfortable thud when going over bumps....

There are more problems but i'm blanking right now.
What do you guys think?

Any feedback is appreciated.

1. buy a new speaker
2. go to a tint shop
3. probably a clog in the ducting....does it go on and shut itself off? or not go on at all
4. probably not the ball joints

Read the warranty and have everything coverd fixed as fast as you can.

On your way to taking it in, stop at auto zone or something and have the check engine light tested before you get to the dealership, they may give you some jive and lie about what it is if it will save them from having some serious work done but not every one is that dishonest.

The tint wont be covered, look in the phone book and go to a shop.

The speaker may be, its covered under my premium power train but I don't know your warranty.

My heated seat didn't work when I purchased my car and it went in right away, that was covered and was simply a harness if I'm correct.

The suspension from what I read when I had this problem can be a ton of things, for me it "was" the ball joint, tie rod and sway bar.

But any way take it in and have it looked at, if these problems persist past the 7 days it should be credited toward your warranty as a incomplete service. I would not drive no more than 4 blocks from the dealership or what have you and make sure its, A OK. If not, don't waste any time and go right back in.

The dealer said (and I looked and agreed) that the bars, arms and joints were bad. I bought it used and it is only a powertrain warranty, so I'm afraid the suspension isn't covered. I can't drive this car for more than two days without something going wrong. :-(

I would say join the club but it seems you already have.;)

But I would look into that very well, read all the literature you got for the warranty. They tried this with me and they found that they were wrong it took them 2 seconds to say ..OH ha ha there it is I see it now on my computer.

Im sure it should be coverd.

I can't speak for his specific warranty but it seems to me that a car with 120,000 on the clock would not have much covered by any warranty anymore (even if it was a dealer's warranty).

But I agree, be thorough. Read everything and get what you can out of it. LS parts/repairs dont come cheap.

Unless there was another warranty picked up it shouldn't have any at all, even mine being( supposedly ) the best one ( free rental, bumper to bumper everything but wear and tear ) its only coved for 75k or 7 years.

So I am assuming the previous owner purchased another.

Its a 3 month/ 3k dealer warranty.
They usually don't cover suspension problems, just engine and drivetrain. Check on the Buyers Guide and see what it says as far as warranty coverage. The dealer is also required by law (in VA they are, dunno about your area) to give you documentation of ALL covered components if you ask for information about the warranty.

Oh man my bad! I had to go back over the original post. I forgot about him owning it for 3 months and all that other Jazz. I thought he purchased it with a warranty that is about to run up.

Sorry.

#3 driver seat - the wiring to the heating element has been snapped, has to do with the wiring going over the lumbar bag in the seat, and not enough wiring to stretch over the expanding lumbar.

Without taking the seat apart you can't fix it.

Now I wonder which skills engineer up at FoMoCo decided it would be best to run the wiring in FRONT of the lumbar instead of going behind it? :shifty: thats a real genuis there.

The same one that put the coolant canister where it is, and what the hell is that lumbar crap for? All it does is make it uncomfortable if you ask me. Nothing like driving with a basket ball against your back.

Ha Ha!! Thanks Ford! You were correct with my 3k/3 month warranty. It was only supposed to be a 1/1 warranty, but they mis-marked it, their loss. But I must say, they have been very cooperative with this car, and even rebuilt the transmission when all it needed was a valve body and solenoid (hmm... where have I heard this before...) and they rebuilt everything, I'm happy with their effort (and it's a GM dealer).

Oh yes an update about the CEL: It's another lean code, had it checked at AutoZone this afternoon. I think my O2 censor is going bad, we'll see.
