alright here is a picture of the job circuit city's "road shop" did. im pretty satisfied for $95 wiring the sirius unit and my v1(which is again the best investment ive ever made) to a wire that goes on and off with the car. i know not a big deal to some people on here but i like it and am very proud of my car :D

$300 on ebay brand new, they are by far better than the escorts, v1 puts those to shame. check on ebay for them

That radar detector aint gonna do you much good mounted that low. Mount it high above the morror but under the tint if possible.

Radar Roy says to mount the detector as low as possible. I have my RX65 down on the dash. I get better warnings than when I had it up by the mirror. Now if I would just pay attention to them.......

Well.. I don't know who Radar Roy character is, but I do know who Mike Valentine, the Inventor of the Valentine One is. And Mr. Valentine suggests mounting it high.

When Radar Roy comes out with his own radar detector, maybe I'll listen to him.

Anything on your windshield or hanging from your rearview mirror, etc will reward you with an obstruction of view ticket. Most cops won't give you that ticket unless you deserve it, or if they are dicks.

i my opinion, have the radar where i have it is perfect for me, if i a cop is instant-onning or just has his radar on facing oncoming traffic i can pick up a good mile to mile and a half away. having it mounted low is supposedly better pickup for laser since police aim for license plates(then again if you get a laser signal its already too late, your toast). mounting it too high will block the rear radar antenna from picking up a good signal from behind which is one of v1's major niche's. and mounting it high(unless you have the remote display) got a pain to keep looking up id rather have it in my line of sight. (i usually drive the new jersey turnpike and nj staties dont use laser, i personally hate constantly looking up and having it flash right in my eye) and i dont get how you can even compare an escort to a v1. directional arrows and bogey counters plus a junk radar filter? escort cant even compare

Well.. I don't know who Radar Roy character is

He is an ex-cop who tests detectors scientifically. Try reading his site. It's very informative.

FWIW, Bel also recommends a high mount.

check out my radar detector. i've had it for 2 years, bought it brand new for just under $200. the manual said mount it high and make sure it can "see" out both the front and back glass. so thats what i did. since then i haven't gotten a ticket. its manufactured by cobra. best investment i've ever made and i wasn't even the one who payed for it.

edit: sorry for bad quality picture just bought the new cingular smartphone

Alright kids, here's the best way to mount it. Hardwire it into the ignition, then run it through the dash, through the A-Pillar, through the headliner, and through the housing where all the wires run to the rearview mirror, and mount it directly under the rear view mirror. Just like me.

Radar Roy is a paid advertiser, some stuff he says as far as how to and where to issues are true and are common sense but his reviews are biased and he is a paid retailer and advertiser.

everyone has their own opinions, what is fact it that radar operates off of line of sight, if it has a clear line of sight out of both front and back windows then your good. it is also fact police aim for oncoming license plates and/or grilles so mounting it lower will pick up laser easier. any radar except a V1 doesnt have a rear facing radar antenna because v1 has the patents, all other radars just have rear facing laser detectors, so it doesnt matter where anyone with a bel, escort, cobra puts there radar to pick up radar signals behind. if you put it too high i.e. above your rear view mirror, personally i have notice having an 03+ with a 3rd brake light up in the rear headliner line of sight for the rear radar is diminished on my v1. basically if you want good radar pickup mount it high if you want good laser pick up mount it low, or compromise and put it in between

Just because the antenna isn't visible doesn't mean it doesn't have one. My Bel has a very good one. Had I headed it's warning (mounted on the dash, BTW) I wouldn't have been pulled over in Oregon. Even though radar is basically line-of-sight, I get pretty good, actually excellent, over-the-hill detection. Saved my bacon a couple of times. Instant-on alerts are also excellent.

Anyway, this sure isn't worth an argument. Mount it where you're comfortable and head it's warnings!!

too bad i could never do it my self and it would prolly cost like $200 just to get it done.

i can guarantee that no other radar detector has a rear facing radar detecting antenna. others have rear laser detectors but no rear facing antenna, i will guarantee this. that is why they are $400 new, not because of a gimmick but because mike valentine(who co-founded escort) has the patents on a rear facing radar detecting antenna and the arrows. any radar can pick up erronious radar signal from over a hill and around a bend, the reason v1's are good are because say.....you are on the highway you pick up a cop beep beep beep and so on, you pass him and the signal gets weak so you start to speed up then bam another cop is sitting ahead and instant ons you, your screwed, now with the v1, itd tell you there are two radar, and after you pass the first cop the v1 will point behind and it will also point ahead to the second one that is instant onning other people, picking up both radars so you dont get caught in the trap of the second cop hiding in the radar shadow of the first one. id like to see any other radar get you out of that predicament as easily as a v1 can

so let me get this right. the v1 actually displays an arrow in the direction the cop with the radar is? btw they have crazy speed traps on 95 in brevard county, still no tickets knock on wood.

i'll have to shop around. i would pay less than a $100.
circuit city charged me $95 to install the sirius and radar detector and they did a decent job, not a great one but a decent one

yes it displays an arrow to the direction of the signal, it can track up to 8 different signals at once, and it filters out junk radar signals

I've had my V1 velcroed on the middle of my back DECK..sitting under an additional 3rd brake light cover (the radar lens is facing forward/controls facing towards the rear of the car) for 5 years with this LS, and 3 years with the previous LS.

Works fine back there, and gives PLENTY of advance radar notie and even picks up laser and false laser (high mounted LED brake lights on SUVS in front of me) signals. No speeding tickets for me in well over 10 years.

Im sure I'd get an extra 20 feet or so of radar coverage if I moved it to the front glass. But it sure is nice to not have something sitting on my front glass, having to take it down/put it on all the time. (I refuse to leave anything of vaue visible in my car). I have a power switch for it installed just below my trunk release button. COmes in real handy when Im about to approach a stretch of local road where I KNOW cops routinely set up speed traps.

My V1 is mountedup next to the mirror, just under the window tint. If you look real hard you can see it from in front of the car. Then I have the reomte mount on the rightside of the dash facing me. I put some of the kitchen counter rubber no slip stuff there and it keeps it in place real nice. And I can take it out anytime I feel and tuck the wire under the dash no sees it. It works great. I ike the features of where to look for the radar. I have learned when all the motion sensors in the nieghborhood are also. The range around town is great, I can pick Ka radar about 5 blocks away before I even can see a cop. And on the freeway about 2 miles away.

thats a pretty cool idea, do you have the remote mount or something?

Thanks, and it's a very weasy install. Small hold in the back deck to snake the V1's wire through, then route it up the side/under the carpet up to the drivers side of the dash area where you can access switched power. Yep. I have the remote console. It's only about 2 inches long, maybe an inch high. I have it velcroed to the uppermost left corner of my windshield..perfectly in me peripheral vision, but impossible to see from outside the car. Easy to hit the mute button on the remote console, and like I said, I added a basic push on/push off power button just under the trunk release switch. My windows are tinted...35% I think, but 20% on just the rear. From outside the car, you really cant see the V1 at all. From inside, you really have to know it's there to look back and ask "whats that black thing underneath that plastic cover? (the open end of the extra 3rd brake lite cover is facing forward, so the V1 antenna is fully exposed. I give up rear laser detection..but in all of my years of driving? I have NEVER encountered or heard of cops nailing people in the BACK with laser.

And I live across the water from Virginia..the ONLY state in the US that outlaws detectors. So the stealth factor is great. I easily pick up PLENTY of radar from PLENTY of distance away.
