Bump Steer

Is there a kit for mark viii's for bump steer or do offset rack bushings for a mustang work with our rack?
 
What exactly is "bump steer" ? My car is lowered and I don't have any problems.

If the lower control arms travel in a different arc than the outer tie rods ends, the car can steer involuntarily during suspension travel. This is caused by incorrect suspension geometry, typically as a result of being lowered too far, or suspension components being replaced with others that don't have the correct geometry built into them from the get-go.
 
Am I the only to experience the local chain tire shops having a terrible history of aligning the car? I don't think I've ever had the luxury of them getting it right on the first attempt.

I know the Mark VIII is a little trickier than some cars to align, but for some reason, those knuckleheads can not get it right on my car. I just replaced the lower control arm, take it in for alignment, and it's shaking like a son of a gun on the highway and a bit squirrelly on the road.

You're not the only one, trust me. My experience has been that most alignment shops are staffed by morons who get the car "close" according to what the machine says, and have very little understanding of suspension in general.

When I bought bumpsteer adjustable tie-rod ends for my Mustang from Baer Brakes, it took me forever to find a place that didn't look at me like :confused: when I asked them to adjust the suspension to ensure I had minimal bumpsteer. Some places would just say "Yah no problem" - which I would follow up with "Can you show me your bumpsteer gauge" and again, I'd get a :confused: look from them.

Alignments are one of the things I dont hesitate to have done at the local Ford stealership. Costs more, but they get it so damn perfect every time. They even align my height sensors if needed first and have no problem working on a lowered car. Being a smaller town they have a reputation to keep and I think that helps, there are certainly some dealerships I would not trust to put air in my tires.
 
:I Alignment = Dealership.......ALL green there :D ........unless you know somebody that can align our cars right.......one shop even told me they couldnt get the RF to spec cause of my lowered coil conversion........... :rolleyes: ,
 
Look up the tire rack recommended suspension shops in your area, they usually do top notch work on alignments.
 
I would never have anyone but a dealership touch my car for alignment. I was told that I needed to replace my shocks or else the slignment would be useless, even after replacing the tie rods and eyballing them.

My friend went to get his Tbrid done and they told him the front coils needed to replaced or else they couldn't align it. Another friend had a probe and they told him they couldn't do it because he had rims, I could go on.
