While Driving I randomly get a Single chime Similar in sound to when you press the button to display the Avg MPG and miles til empty. I always check my gauges and nothing seems a miss, no lights or warnings. I never let it get under 100 miles til empty because I understand it will chime at 50 miles to empty and every 10 miles after.

Anyone have any ideas what the chime could be?

I don't know it can possibly be that your air bag light is out is it a beeping chime?

Dose it happen quickly after you start the car or after a whole from driving?

Put the key on not to turn the engine on and see if any dash lights are not lighting up look for the airbag light see if it's on.

What year ls do you have and assuming it's v8 because you may have message center

I believe this has been discussed in several threads and IIRC it's a temporary disconnect in communication from the computer, nothing to worry about.

Correct........ It's the car telling you it's still alive......

And I thought it was my 'Ejection Seat' module f'n up.
Phew ! I'm glade it's something much simpler....:p

Air bag light is working. It happens at random times while driving or at a stop light its just a single tone like when you press the display button for your message center. Model year is 2000

there is a documented issue with the PCM losing communication (for an instant) with the transmission - it flashes 'gear select error' for a second.

no worries.

I've only ever heard/seen it once since ownership.

This happens for me about once every 6 months. If I happen to be looking I will see "Gear Select Error" on the message center for a fraction of the a second. It seems to happen mostly when going up slight inclines under light acceleration, which is exactly the same type of circumstance I notice COP misfires when they are starting to go wonky.

I thought I was nuts as I had heard this while driving my new to me LS from L.A. home to Rochester. One single chime in about nebraska I think. I was going crazy checking gauges and scrolling through status. I'm glad to hear it is probably nothing to worry about.
