First and foremost I must say I have only had it about a week and a half and I am loving this car.

It is a 2000 V8 model, I bought it used with 156k miles on it No check engine light valve cover gaskets were just replaced by the mechanic I take any car I own to for service Moon roof and CD changer and all electronics work with the exception of the Stereos display (stereo works though)

Now for the questions, I have tried searching for this info but my google fu is weak.

First thing is the headliner is coming down, not the cloth but the whole solid piece. what is the best way to put it back up? Its not terrible but its noticeable.

Display for the factory stereo is not working do I need to replace or is there a button to turn the display off/on?

Has a bit of a sputter at cruising speeds and around 2100 rpm so I figure it needs coils possibly a new air filter (cant find a cold air intake for it just the filters) however No CEL so how do I figure out which coils? will it still show on a code reader?

Yesterday morning on my way home from work I had the cruise control set for 68 and when i tried to accelerate using the pedal I lost all power and throttle response. I shut the car of and pulled safely to the side of the road and the car started back up and ran like it never happened. Searching has come up with four possible issues
Air filter ( replacing this anyway)
EGR valve
Coil pack
or PCM relay
Is there anything else I should have checked?

With traction control off I got the wheels to spin one time. Every time after it has just powered through the brake. It does have rather new Goodyear (I think) fierce instinct tires so maybe its just to much traction? Not that I am out trying to smoke the tires but I traded a Hyundai accent in for this LS, prior to that my other car history includes an 88 Thunderbird 5.0, 89 Firebird Formula 305 and a 94 Mercury Cougar XR7 4.6 and I have missed the smell of burning rubber. Just want to give them a chirp every once in a while not do a smoke show.

And lastly has anyone ever taken theirs to a dealership and had a full stem to stern inspection done if so what was the cost?
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Replace.

This is easy. You need to replace all the coils and all the spark plugs. Almost everyone fights this, but when they finally do, they really wish they had given in and done it to start with.
By the time that you have one bad enough to notice, all the others are already degraded. Even if they don't fail soon, they are costing you performance and mileage that you don't realize.

Have to get some heavy duty velcro and put it back up. Mine 02 is doing the same thing. Just havent gotten to it yet.

One of my coils went out and if one does it should eventually throw a code. Took about 2 mins of driving with a bad coil for mine to throw the misfire on cylinder # code.

Welcome to the club by the way. I just got my LS about 8 months ago and love it.

Rodger will do that ASAP. Probably the reason i lost all power yesterday. I drove it to and from work last night/ this morning (I work third shift) and tried to replicate the issue with out result.

Thanks for the welcome.

I have tried the Velcro but it is not sticking to the headliner. Sticks to the roof fine but the part stuck to the headliner the adhesive always fails

I have been driving it for a week and no light has come on. But i will replace the Coils and plugs anyway.

Thanks for the link. Has anyone on the forum used the intake system in the link? I am always wary of anything sold on E-bay

:W That intake is the same as the original design from a company LLSOC was working with. That one cost over $200 back in the day. I wouldn't hesitate to install that; especially for the price.

The headliner may have to be redone at an auto upholsterer. I had to do that on a Cougar my son bought years ago.

Failing coils rarely throw a code. When a code does show up, it usually means one or both catalytic converters are toast. I would do the coils and plugs (Motorcraft and NGK respectively) as soon as you can!!! Like in days, not weeks.

I would imagine a stem to stern inspection would be rather expensive. Just repair what fails as needed. Just about every repair has been covered here.

I changed the Air filter today and noticed this is it going to become a vacuum leak ? And what is that part called so I can replace it. I am not going to be able to get the Intake linked above as they only accept pay pal and I absolutely refuse to use that service.

Is it leaking now? It should only become a leak if the connection (on the right) fails. The other connection has an o-ring to seal the hose.

Then again, I'm not that familiar with that intake tube.

I don't think it is leaking but there is a noticeable gap. I am going to have a friend help me make a cold air intake and get a k&N filter so the whole set up is going to be replaced. Before that happens i am going to do the following work
Plugs
Coils
brakes
cabin filter
fuel filter

Then intake and exhaust

It runs great as it is just that one incident where it died trying to pass a semi worries me.
I am thinking the stutter I experienced is because the dealer I bought it from filled the tank with 87 octane (just a guess). I filled it with 91 and everything is smoothing out it seems.

Here is a pic of my new daily driver

and a pic of what I traded in for it. I hated everything about it. First and lord willing only little 4 cyl. car I will ever own

Messed around with it some more today. Was able to chirp the tires a few times. Turns out the tries are just fairly grippy so i needed a little more gas to break them free. Also got an app for my phone that tracks you via gps and does 0-60 times. Not sure how accurate it is but i managed a 6.97 with a launch from 2.5 rpms from stand still was about 8.5. Both were with automatic shifting. I did not use the sst

Im new here and all these articles have helped me more than I can explain from DIY to take it to a shop lol.
I have a 01 LS V8 and when I got it the headliner was hanging in the back after inspecting it the glue that holds the velcro to the top came loose so I went to Lowes and got some Epoxy took the top velcro piece that was stuck to the headliner and used the epoxy to glue it back to the roof. Left it hanging for a couple days did the bottom piece that was attached to the headliner let it all dry and then just put the two pieces back together and no more issues since. It was just the factory glue had met its end and disconnected. With the airflow from the sunroof it just vibrated it loose I guess. I took a new somewhat sharp flat head and disconnected the bottom piece from the headliner and FYI the velcro patches are pretty strong.

i have tried the velcro but I have a plan i am going to try. It involves a really long strip of Velcro and some industrial adhesive.

the key is to give it time for the adhesive to set...

when I did mine, I mixed epoxy to hold the velcro on to the headliner and the roof/3rd brake light. after I epoxied the velcro strips up, I made sure not to push the two sides together yet. I let it set up over night then pushed them together the next morning. never had a problem since.
