Hi guys, let me just say that this forum has kept me from sticking a rag in the gas tank of this car. So i am hoping that you might be able to help me with my newest problem. I just replaced all the brake pads on the car on friday. Drove the vehicle around all day saturday with no issues. Didnt use the car on sunday, and drove it to work this morning with no issues. However on my ride home the vehicle developed a very noticable thumping sound. It sounds like a 2x4 wrapped around the driveshaft. It starts at around 10 mph and progressivly gets worse with more speed. I have no idea where to even begin to look for problems that would cause this kind of noise. I checked the wheel bearings on all four tires when i put in the new pads and i didnt notice any play that would suggest a bearing failure. any ideas will be entertained and given a through check. thank you for your time guys.

I would check the lug nuts on all the wheels very closely. The first thing that comes to mind is that you may have forgot to tighten the nuts on one of the wheels.

Other than that, it could be an unrelated tire defect. It's tempting to blame some of the brake hardware, but I don't think the symptoms would match.

Thank you for the suggestion joegr. I just went and checked all the lug nuts and sure enough several of them were loose. I tightened them back up with a little more omf this time. i am sure this will solve the problem.

You'll want to torque them to 100ftlb...

yep, i only torqued em to 90, re-torqued em and no more vibrations or noises from it today, other than the usual noises coming from the drivers side cylinder head
