So the title pretty much says it all. Going to flush the power steering fluid. Friction modifier was put in around 60K miles for the whining noise. Should I plan to add another bottle when I fill it again?

Also, I'm assuming I can just pop the lines on the rack and turn the wheels from lock to lock to 'flush' it into a bucket. Then refill and turn from lock to lock to bleed it. Then just run it and fill it until it takes no more fluid. Anything I need to know or is that pretty much it?

I changed my fluid (not as comprehensively) last year and only added 1/2 the bottle. The noise returned over the winter months a few thousand KMs later. I added some more (almost full bottle used at this point) a few weeks back and it has finally diminished. It could be due to the warmer weather though

Why not disconnect the return hose that goes into the reservoir, direct into a bucket, run engine and refill on the go with a helper?

Guess I could do that. Be somewhat of a pain to reconnect the hose without a mess. Guess I could drain the resevoir again before hooking up the line after flushing.

If you do this, get new o-rings.

That is typically how I have done it with other vehicles.

Do not forget to keep working the steering wheel back and forth all the way lock to lock during the flushing process. This is a job where you need a helper to keep adding fresh fluid to the reservoir - you can't let is suck any air during the flush procedure.

Reservoir it is. Hopefully a few quarts will get it done.
