hi, I recently had an overheating problem where my 2006 LiNCOLN ls started smoking and the mechanic said I had air bubbles coming up through my radiator. He said someone had left the cap loose and that was why.

Well it seemed he fixed it after letting it cool down, tightening the cap and driving it to see if it would smoke again. It seemed it was fixed as I went back to my home 90 miles away. I went to have the radiator flushed at an oil change place the next day and they said the car was really hot, the water boiling and such. But the whole time my temp gauge stayed in the middle. They said it was probably the thermostat. Well, I then took my car to a supposed great mechanic to fix but after a day he said I need to take it to a dealer to fix because I have air pockets in my reservoir.

Is this a major problem? An expensive problem? Is it easy to fix? Please give me info. I'm disabled and have a limited amount of income so the last thing I need is an expensive problem.

Thank you!

my 06 also has what seems to be bubbles in the degas bottle , hasnt ever overheated on me though or gave me any issues , this is a recent find for me though , its getting hotter here in Chicago

Follow the bleed procedure in the tech articles listed above. If the cap was loose it is likely that some air got in that needs to be bled out - however it is also highly likely that you have a hairline crack in one of your plastic cooling components letting air in. Any overheating issues? You will most likely need to replace all of the plastic cooling components.

This may seem expensive but trust if you go looking for a leak you will be out a lot of money im sure if its been running hot all the plastic parts have been stressed and you will always have a problem if you dont just replace it all now

Thats a little premature... First lets make sure its bled correctly before we start ordering parts

I was in the process of getting a coolant flush soon , should I just bleed it and wait to see what the results are ?

If those parts on his 2004 have never been replaced and have now been subjected to some overheat cycles, it's not premature, it's overdue...

mine has never overheated so the air bubbles in the degas might be a warning of soon to fail cooling parts

Overheating and running hot is different if you got bubbles the air is in the system one r two ways something is cracked r something like the cap is not secure. If you been in the system before and sure it no reason for anything to be cracked I would say bleed it. If you haven't been in it and its never happened before I would pull all of it

Running hot is just operating at higher than normal temps for long time. Overheating it got hot once and I pulled over and had it towed

how would you know you are running hot ? my indicator has always stayed below the middle of H and C

called the dealership they want 150+tax for a coolant flush , my friend had his 04 v8 flushed at firestone for 80, if I go to firestone I should tell them to put which coolant because I know they wont have access to Motorcraft gold, I advanced searched this and read prestone was compatible , which exact prestone is compatible ?

Check all your plastic coolant tubes for a white residue, also pull the degass bottle out and check it cause from experience, my 2002 ls overheat a few times. I bleed the system and just this past weekend I replaced all coolant parts, pull the degass bottle and it look like a plastic jar that placed in boiling water with the top on, the plastic it's made from do not hold up well in a over heat condition.

Also from the great guys of this site I learned, that the LS can be in a overheat condition with out giving off a temp light and the gauge a sit just a hair above the middle hash mark on the dash. Now that I change every thing and bled the system till to death the temp hand sits on the middle hash mark to where you can see a small amount of the white hash mark at the top.

Also when a drive at night I notice that the hand will fall below the line. At times.
If it turns out to be your plastic plumbing rock auto and ford parts growing have real good prices I walked away with all plumbing except the lower hose (cost me 150 dealer awhile back turned out to be radiator. ) for less then 300 and that's with the metal coolant tree on the front.

This is about your best clue yo a running hot situation plus one. After driving pop the hood a listen for Boling

Not sure haven't looked it up but see if you can by the gold at a good price and just have Firestone do the work get them to give you a better price if you bring your fluid sure they not going to warranty a flush either way so if its cheaper thats what I would do

i doubt its cheaper by much , plus I trust the dealer more than firestone , i ll just do the trans and coolant flush at the same time and save 20 bucks with a coupon
