Lower rear seat problem

Hello fellow LS friends, I'm new to this forum and I'm not very car savvy so this might be a stupid and obvious question if it is I apologize. So I'm trying to get my rear seats down in my 2000 LS and in the manual it says there is a pull cord in trunk but it shows that its in the same spot as the factory high speaker box, if anyone can anyone help a noob out?

Look for a black handle at the top of the trunk, on both sides, right next to the hinges.
