putting bigger valves in a 3.9?

...But correct me if I am wrong did they not drop this transmission in the stang?...

...I miss the live axles...would makw this easoer to find a solution for lol. The company I work for made the open diffs for the ls.

Search through the board there is a guy who did a lot of work on mangling up some CV axles for the rear in order to get high HP/TQ through them. He ended up giving up on the stock knuckles and is fabbing up arms to mount C6 vette knuckles in the back. He put an 8.8" center in it (easy mod) and is using F150 4x4 31-spilne Inner CV joints and re-splining one end of the C6 vette intermediate shaft so that it will fit to the Ford inner joint. He ended up somewhere around $800 in parts for this set-up versus $2200 in a custom CV axle. That of course doesn't include his time/labor.

The LS uses the same automatic transmission as the mustang just with a different bell housing pattern and torque converter on it. Everything from the pump to the output shaft is the same.

Even if you did major customization and achieved high power and success... what are your plans for the transmission and drivetrain?

One step at a time. I will have the trans built to the best that can be done. Once I find out how long it last until I scatter it. Then I will work from there. Make no mistake I plan of blowing up at least one more and trans in the process. Like I told someone in a pm. Never tell me something can not be done. That is where this all started. Guys that run the drag brackets I work with. I side ok challenge accepted. If I'm not spending money on ammo I am spending money of cars and trucks...kind of what I do. Building toys brings me my zen :)

ANYTHING can be done with enough money. The question is whether it is money well spent!!

With the way things are going I'd be stocking up on ammo!!!

I too don't see the point to going into the engine if you are going to put twins on it (which I think is going to be a packaging nightmare). The newer 3.9 seems to be a pretty bulletproof engine as long as it's maintained. Adding 1 bar of pressure via turbo's should get you around 175% of existing power and @ 450 at the crank should be plenty for the chassis and drive line. Boost is going to make the heads flow better negating most of the porting work.

I'd go with a smallish single vs. twins and worry more about fueling it and keeping the fires lit under boost. I think controlling your heat load under the hood is going to be a real issue as well.

I did small twins in a '83 Capri through a carbed 351 before it was commercially supported and that car was a lot of fun.

Hot-Rodding or customizing any car is wasting money. But in the end money is just money and if what you did to the car makes you happy then who cares. Hell, just buying a car is a bad investment. Chances are it will never be worth what you paid for it.

Personally, I don't see why the 3.9 needs bigger valves. There is room for longer duration. If it weren't for that loosey goosey timing chain setup, the rpms could be cranked up to get more horsepower. Theoretically of course.

Yea timing is not the best in the world. And only time will tell how much time and money I waste.
