Need help tranny kicking when siwtich from gear 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3
Hi, I have a bought not long ago a 2004 3l lincoln with 140k. I have noticed that when I switch to gear 1 to 2 and from gear 2 to 3 the tranny is ``kicking``. I have red a couple other trends of people who are having a similar problem on other cars (didn't find someone who had this problem with a LS) and I may have to reprogram the ``PMC``?. I'm not a really good in car mecanics so I was wondering if someone had the same problem and how can I fix it? Thanks!

Are you talking harsh shifts? Has the fluid been flushed?

Yes exactly. And no I never done a transmission fluid changement but a friend of mine who is mecanician told me that since I never done one(for some reason I dont remember) might just have the opposite effect. And I can add that sometimes its not that harsh when I change gear but I can feel my trasmission sliding. Any clue on what might cause this?

Oh and sometimes when I go in R or in D, it feels like the transmission knock a bit but not always though.

Yup the only problem about him is that his magic doesn't seem to have any effect on my tranny...

Some '03's had a valve body problem. Yours may be one. Is there any sign of leaking fluid? I would get a fluid flush (that changes all the fluid) and go from there. Low fluid levels show weird symptoms. You may need a solenoid pack and/or valve body.

He's wrong. That's very old school thinking. If a fluid change makes the trans act up it was bad to begin with. Changing fluid will not cause damage; unless the wrong fluid is used.

Is that a combination of a mechanic and a magician? If so, I'm jealous I don't have a friend like this

I'm thinking French Canadian...... Better English than some I've read here!

Ok so I should start up with a fluid change and afterwards, if it doesn't help, consider changing the solenoids?

If it doesn't help I would take it to the dealer. With a proper diagnosis you can then decide if it's a job you want to tackle. That's much cheaper than throwing parts at it.
