jaguar air intake

Interesting why the AJ8 has no stock silencers, does it mean the original cat growls at stock configuration and the LS wasn't?

Probably. The silencer just quiets engine noise. Doesn't really make much of a difference in performance. The Gen2 s-type has no silencer either:

I was more interested in the intake tube and cover off a gen 2 s-type for the look then anything else.

Ooooooooo......... That looks sahweeet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might have to get one of those.......

So I got a hold of the jaguar's air intake (2000) There's some slight differences, One of the vacuum hose near the air temp sensor is non-existent (there's 2 in the LS) and the other vacuum hose near the throttle intake is closer (so the vacuum hose has to bend in the LS) Dimension-wise it's exactly the same. Junkyard sold it for me for $18, if I can find a cheap adapter for the vacuum hose this will be my project once the weather gets warm again, otherwise I'll be returning it.

yes it does but you need to cut a hole for one of the vacuum hose just on the opposite side of the air temp sensor.

way too damn cold today in KC to take pics outside.

That's a Gen2 cover.......

That. Plus the Jaguar cover has whatever the hell that thing is on the passengers side front of the engine that the LS doesn't. So you would end up with a cut-out to nothing there. I also wanted to take a hole saw and cut out the jaguar emblem and hot-glue a lincoln center cap from a wheel in there.

One of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-02-03-04...Parts_Accessories&hash=item58a83fff69&vxp=mtr

or these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Lincoln-M...:Lincoln|Model:LS&hash=item3a73df110f&vxp=mtr

My thought EXACTLY!!!

So I just bought the cover off of eBay for $50 shipped. Once I get it I will cypher the best way to "replace" the growling cat with something Lincoln.

More to follow!

thank you, i can't wait to see it on a Ls.

On some cars that silencer is not really a silencer. Its a extra pocket of air there for suction at quick acceleration. To give the Throttle body more air. If I understand what part you are talking about.

probably the jaguar s-type is not tuned to have that extra air for quick acceleration since it doesn't have those pockets of air in the intake. if you noticed the air intake for jaguar s-type and lincoln ls are the same except that on the lincoln you have those 3 silencers/resonators attached to the intake. There's a lot of discussion going on if those are just for quieting the engine cabin and/or handle the air waves coming back out and messing the MAF sensor. Certainly on the Jaguar it doesn't need those, so it's either tuned or those parts are just toning down the LS (jaguar owners might not like the sound of lincoln)

btw it's a no-go, it's not a direct replacement. The diameter of the hoses are different and it's not worth the effort changing the stock hoses IMO.

They aren't there for anything other than noise control. If they had any performance application, then replacing it with an aftermarket pipe would result in a very noticeable power loss. What people actually see when they remove the factory tube with all the misshapen lumps and replace it with a straight, smooth tube what they get is engine growl with no change to a small improvement in power, which proves my statement.

Yeah, keep me updated. Been wanting to do it for a while but been busy being lazy :)

Should be here Friday..... Pics soon after....

It's my opinion but I think the gen-2 style (smaller) center cap would look best. I think it's about the same size as the jaguar emblem in the cover so it would look someone intentional and not quite so custom or hacked together. Also thought about going 90's and putting LED's under it so it lights up the snakes.

you stole my idea about led's lol. +1

that was quite a popular thing to do to a early 90's Taurus SHO. That thing had a really neat looking intake manifold to begin with and led's looked nice.
