Is there any possible way a gen 2 ls v8 motor can fit into a gen 1 it might be obvious to some but I'm just wondering, but I really wanted to know if I could take a mustang terminator engine and swap it ..but then again the supercharger may not fit without a custom hood..
 
yeah, it'll fit. controlling it is a whole other ball game.

Awesome I want to go ahead and put money aside now and hopefully find a wrecked termi to buy and build the motor. I know it will be a handful though
 
the DOHC build (upper pic is DOHC) will be a can of worms. not for the faint of heart... that'll be a tight fit.
a SOHC build (like the lower build) will have more room,the heads are smaller and everything is just a little less complex, and has been attempted by a select few here on this site. i haven't seen one start yet though... (did i miss it?)

nevertheless, it can be done. someone even used an old windsor 5.0 and a t5 trans. that one did run. there have also been a couple good running chevy LS motor swaps as well.
 
Thanks for breaking it down. Well I'm up for the challenge. I love the car but she needs more power plus the motor and trans are getting up in age. I thought about the ls swap, but I think it'll be easier keeping it in the Ford family. Ill try to find the people who have done swaps n get done feedback Im subscribed to a few on YouTube but they barely respond.

The problem isn't the fit, it's getting all the electronics to play well together. IIRC, the guy that did the LS swap claimed to have the A/C and heat working well. When pressed, he admitted he had a switch in the console that gave him either full heat of full A/C; NO control over the actual temperature.
 
So basically I would need to switch the controls also, but I'm doing a terminator swap so would it be alittle better since its still ford? I know nothing would be easy and successful as soon as I swap it. I can worry about the electric issues later down the line.
 
I don't think swapping a Ford engine into the LS would be a lot easier than anything else. It would be a matter of personal preference. Myself, i'd go Ford tuff with Chevy stuff. Or just slap in a 4BT cummins deisel....

If you can still find it, look for the One Lap of America LS. Ford engineers (who had access to all the stock programming) shoved a 4.6L engine into an '03 LS. They never could get the electronics to work right. They also had a cooling issue they, AFAIR, couldn't really cure. And the guy that put the LS engine in also had to have custom, stand-alone gauges (speedo, tach, fuel level and water temp) as the factory set wouldn't work (electrically). That car has also had more owners than NObama has lies!

The LS has more in common with a Jaguar than any Ford. Do yourself a favor. Ditch this idea and spend the money on a Jaguar S-Type R. Unless you're just looking for a stylish drag car......

Well in that case I might just wait to get a different car lol, I really just wanted to make the ls a sleeper,I'll be ok with just getting 350-400hp to the wheels if I want more I might wait for another vehicle

350-400 at the wheels is something like 420-480 at the flywheel. You need a different car.........

whats to build, there is a reason its called a terminator. you throw smaller pulleys and more fuel at it until your ready for a twin screw...

ford did pretty much all the building needed.

however, if you want something with a termi in it, your much better off buying something with a termi already in it.

it would definetly be the most power for the least money. termi's are still going for a pretty high price tag by the time you get the motor, blower, trans, computer, harness... you can get get a LS2 setup for far less, an LS2 and a cam, maybe new heads, and your making some serious power!


Or just slap in a 4BT cummins deisel....
that would be one mean coal rolling SOB!
 
If you really want to make it work, you just need to use the existing LS sensors on the donor engine. This will require some custom creation work on your part, but it would be possible. You'll need to make EVERY sensor on the LS system work on the new engine. If you can make all the sensors work with the new engine, then all the ancillary systems that depend upon the engine PCM, like the automatic HVAC system, will also work correctly. The PCM has no idea that it's controlling an engine, it is only responding to electrical inputs according to its programming.

Once you get the hardware into place, you will need the computer tuned for the larger engine. I have no idea how much power the trans and rear diff can handle, likely they will also need upgrading.

All that being said, it would probably be easier to get a different car to modify.
 
+1 for a different car.

I'm buying another car after Christmas anyway. Audi a4 avant turbo(need an awd vehicle for the winters).. so I can play around with that one. the Ls will be my daily anyway, but I still wanted to give it a little more power, its a fun car as it is but I just wanted to see what can I do to make it better.
 
Some cars are easy to modify, some cars can easily have engines/transmissions swapped out, and then you have the LS... where nothing is easy/available.

If that's the case it's no wonder they couldn't keep it cool. They added a larger supercharged engine to the car, and it looks like they used a one core radiator (can't tell for sure on it) and then used a parts store electric fan to cool them down. That fan looks like a universal 500CFM job from the looks of it, which is woefully inadequate for the job. They'd have done better using a Taurus SHO electric fan for the job with a 4 core radiator even if it meant modifying the rad mount to mount the radiator a little closer to the bumper. Over in the V8 S10 world they use the Taurus fan to keep their trucks cool, with just as tight an engine bay while running high HP large cubic inch smallblock Chevy engines.
