The other day I noticed my lincoln was sounding funny. I pulled over and heard this noise coming from under the hood sounding like metal on metal coming from some where. I cut it off and took the key out the ignition and it still continue to run and the starter kept trying to start while the car seem to still be on and it was off. Today I smelled some wierd smell and it wouldnt start but What i did notice there was barley any oil on the dip stick please tell me I didnt sieze the motor I just had the oil change last week ????please does this sould like a bad starter or the motor is gone?please help me figure out which one.

Looks like you may have two issues.
First, you are consuming or leaking oil, and you should check it and top it off more often. I'd also check for a leak.

Second, it sounds like the starter locked on. It could be a bad starter relay, or it could be the solenoid on the starter itself. Either way, you may very well need a new starter now. I would replace the starter relay too. The teeth on the flex plate should also be checked when replacing the starter. Lastly, you may need a new battery and maybe even an alternator. Have the battery load tested and see what the charging voltage from the alternator is while the engine is running. (This event was very stressful on your electrical system.)

Of course, this is all from the 50,000 foot view that I have. It could all be something very different. You'll need someone to check it out.

Thanks you guys... It has a brand new battery in it only a month old. It doesnt sound like the motor siezed cause when I turn it on I dont get no clicks or nothing I hear the fuel pump come on and the dash lights comes on like normal. But when I turn the key I get nothing ?because I would hate for it to be the motor because it had a drop on the dipstick every time I checked after this happen

Why ever would you not add oil to bring it to the full line as soon as you found that it was low? It's certainly not going to fill back up on it's own.

well if the motor was seized, the starter would still try to turn it, so you should still get a loud "click" when turning the key

a problem with the starter solenoid or relay could cause it not to click...

could you point me in the direction of the relay

grab your owners manual from the glove box, open it up to the very back (also known as the index), look under fuses and relays, flip to the page (188/189 for 1st gen), look at the map drawn out in the manual.

or, if you don't have a manual...

tech articles at the top of the page > "owners manual" for lincoln ls > open it up to the very back (also known as the index), look under fuses and relays, flip to the page (188/189 for 1st gen), look at the map drawn out in the manual.

You probably burned out your starter and starter relay. There's not too many more ways to say this.
