A buddy of mine loves the car and has been looking at getting one for a long time. I figured I'd help him out and ask you guys if you can to keep your eyes peeled. He has a tight budget since he has 3 kids, looking to spend no more than $1,500-$2,000 (I know, I know) but I figure if we can locate one for around that with the help of the forum and tutorials we can probably fix anything wrong with the car. He also used to be a mechanic for about 5 years so that should help. Please let me know if you guys see an LS for sale in the upper east coast region for $2,000 or less? So if anyone here has an LS for sale... you can either PM me or respond to this thread. Thanks a bunch guys.

I'm sure you could buy one for less than $2000, but I think that you will quickly be spending a few thousand more to make it safe to drive.

Yeah you're right but he swears he can fix anything that goes wrong with it... So who am I to judge? I warned him ahead of time about the various PITA things about the LS... so this is just more me doing him this favor and at least asking :)

I'll keep my eyes out, but talking from experience this car is kit a good car for someone with a tight budget. With all my college loans and other bills its an expensive car but free and clear this month so no payment will be nice.

See if he could up the budget to 3500 at the most, I know that's a lot but an extra 1500 up front will probably save him more than that in the long run, maybe able to get less miles and so on

Thanks guys, I could easily find one around me for about $1,500 the only reason I asked the forum is because (besides the few bad apples) I can somewhat trust some of the members here more than I would a random person on craigslist or from cars.com to be honest with me about what is wrong, what needs to be fixed, etc. If nothing pops up here I'll tell him and he will have to continue to do his own research.

Also, about the budget thing he currently doesn't make a lot of money and has an 89 Taurus that he keeps putting money into (that's how bad his budget situation is).

get the choise : spending money in your ls:W or keeping your kids happy ;)
so be aware its hard having 3 kids a lincoln ls and a low budget,,,

It's not about that... he is dumping money into an 89 Taurus with over 200,000 miles. IF he gets his hands on an LS I can help him with the repairs, with the help of the good people on this forum. IF he gets another vehicle - I can't be of much assistance to him. Just trying to help a brotha out! So far nothing has presented itself in his price range and his Taurus needs a water pump, so he's getting a ride to and from work from a buddy. We'll see what happens.

Taking nothing away from you or this great forum...but there are many...many...many easier cars to wrench on then the LS.

And parts are pricey or used....not much aftermarket.

I would steer anyone clear of an LS is they had that kind of situation..in fact I would feel liable if I found it and had so many issues..even if I help fix it.

Believe me, I warned him, but that is the car he says he wants. Who am I to crush his dreams? Either way it looks like it won't be happening anyway, which is good.
