I was browsing the net today. Looking for something I need at work. I found this company called fumoto USA. They sell drain valves for oil. http://fumotousa.com/
I looked at the fitment charts listed. They list 00 + LS 3.0L (F-107) then grouped with the 4.6 and 5.0 they have the 3.9L (F-106). I change my own oil and it gets old having to do the whole process. So I just wanted to know if anyone has ever used one. Im going to order one in the morning along with A few for work and several instant S.O.S sheets.
 
That's a neat product. I don't think its something that would make my life easier as I only change my oil twice a year and have had good luck with the oem threaded bolts. But its nice
 
I thought they were pretty nifty. I've heard of people stripping the drain plug a few times. I've done that as well on one of my old cars. I just put an O ring and washer on it. Never had a problem as long as I had a new O ring when I changed the oil. But I'm concerned about the clearance if I'm pulling into a parking lot with uneven pavement, potholes and speed bumps. Oh yeah, and tires on the freeway :X . Brass isn't necessarily the toughest metal. If it breaks or cracks, it could be a problem.
 
True never thought about that. Our cars do sit very low. It looks like it would extend at least an inch out from the pan compared to the 3/8 or so the oem bolt
 
I had one on my truck that I suspected had cracked threads on the oil pan. I installed this and loved every bit of it. It took the little bit of worry I had when removing and installing the drain plug. I would be concerned with how low it sits, but if that turns out to not be an issue then I'd highly recommend it.

I forgot how much I paid but it couldn't have been too expensive either. Just be careful with it and watch what you might run over and just check it periodically.

Yeah, I'd be very vigilant for the first year . Especially if I invoke l know I hit something.

It says they stick out 1/2 " more than the factory plug.
( For cars)

I have had it in my 00LS since 2001 and before that it was in my 91 Probe GT Turbo for 10 years and never any problems. I added pic's so you can see that it only sets out about 1/2" further than the standard drain plug. Back when I bought it (at Kmart) it was only $9.99, but I'm sure it will be more than that now. By the way, mine is the same brand as you listed so you know it's reliable.
 
Fumoto Drain Plugs

We use these at work on our fleet vehicles, most of which are Cummins diesels and IH MaxxForce engines. We've never had an issue, so we started using them on our Ford and Dodge 6.7L diesels. With that said I can't see any reason not to use them.

HI !! Let me start by welcoming you to LVC ! Lots of good info on here! Now, back to bidness! Actually, I was looking for a drain plug for the oil pan of my CAT IT-24 (Nessy).
And I was considering buying one for each of our trucks. And the N valve for the horizontal grinder. Due to vibration and flying debris ! Well... and the once a month oil samples. Unless I get comparable results using their S.O.S system. I'm going to give it a try. But I don't have much faith , looks cheap.
 
The one I had, the regular one, not the one with the nip, was a steady flow IIRC.
 
I haven't seen these yet. But they just built an orileys by my shop so I'll have to go check them out! Thanks!
 
Those work pretty good. I've used a threaded hose barb to screw into the oil pan, and ran a hose to a valve where it was more convenient. Kind of like a remote drain. Great for when the oil drain is above the cross member or somewhere equally as stupid :)
 
Haha ^^^^^ that's what I'm doing with my loader right now! Instead of removing the whole fitting. It's on the side of the oil pan , so when i remove it if I'm not accurate where the pressure is going to shoot the oil there's a huge mess :) . Learned that the thought way .
 
I don't use them. I've heard horror stories of them leaking or someone getting pissed and popping the valve open. That being said they're nice to have on harvesters with a drain plug that's about impossible to get to. It's like Kumba said, except they do it from the factory.

Ouch! I never thought about someone being able to mess with it. I would be pissed. That's one thing I would never do. Personally I would rather kick a jerk in the junk and watch them squirm in person than mess with their ride. Although I do like the idea of super glue on the wipers:D.
 
Sorry to bump an old thread - but I'm considering buying one of these for both vehicles after a buddy of mine recommended it.. I do see people mentioning possible clearance issues so I'd figure I clarify once more before purchasing. Anyone have a bad experience with one of these?
 
just seems like too much of a risk just to change oil... saving 30sec of time 4 times a year vs. seizing a block just doesn't seem worth it to me.

Yeah that sounds about right. On my other car it would be worth it because the drain plug is recessed and its a pain in the ass to reach it just wondering if it is on the LS.
 
Its easier for me to fake like i've been busy in the garage when I get a little oily anyways.

Yeah it probably wouldn't save me any time but for my other car the damn plug is so recessed you actually need the F106 adapter (for the fumoto) to even use the valve lol. Ridiculous... its like they don't want anyone else but the dealer changing it (duh). But at $50 for a regular non-synthetic oil change they can S my D.
