2005 LS V-8 3.9 Transmission...

Does anyone know when we are supposed to service the transmission or how often? What kind of work should be done.. just fluid and filter? Is is possible to do it ourselves? Also, I want to address, every blue moon, my transmission would take a while to get into gear (sometimes when I put it in reverse, sometimes when I put it in drive) and when it does kick in, it would be a hard jolt. I always have my foot on the brake before I put it in gear. It happens like an avg of once a week...when it is cold and even when the engine is still warm after a drive.

The head transmission calibrator for the LS recommends following the severe duty schedule. He also said a flush and not just a fluid change is the proper course.
