Vibration nightmare still here....

Tried rotating them today. No change. The closest driveshaft balance shop is 2 hours away so it will have to wait until next weekend. I think that is my last option. If it turns out that the shaft isn't the problem ill probably end up going back to the old gears or saving up for the shaft from Denny.
 
On a lighter note. I met a guy with a red 97 LSC today. The thing was spotless. And only 60k miles! He's trying to sell it for around 6grand tho...

There are none, thats the deal, get it? Ive only been doing these cars 19 years now Dude and trust me you will NEVER get the factory shaft fully balanced. Try. You will dump the 500.00 in trying to keep it under 100 and then spen another 500 on the RIGHT choice watch.
 
I had a mystery vibration with my 93 shaft. Put new joints in it while it was I the car too trying to figure it out? Wound up being the tailshaft on the trans was loose. The bolts backed out the slightest bit and it let the driveshaft start to oscillate on me and sometimes it wouldn't. Tightened up the bolts on the tail shaft to trans main housing and vibrations went away.

Yup, I sure do on the highway. Although both the Dynotech and the 93 shaft were drastically better than the old 2-piece shaft that I used to have probably because the rubber isolator was shot on that one. (my guess)

I know what you are going to say about that though and I will tell you right now even my blown 97 LSC from Kansas will emit some vibration on the highway even with a MMX driveshaft. So all I can say is good luck to anyone trying to keep the drivetrain underneath these cars completely silent because I have yet to experience complete silence from every driveshaft option available for these cars other than the absurdly-priced Denny's shaft which is not worth that money in my opinion even if it was completely silent. I have no experience with that shaft, and don't intend on ever having experience with it for that ridiculous price.

Why are you telling someone with a mild Mark8 with 3.73 gears to spend $600 on a driveshaft? That's retarded and totally unnecessary.
 
OK I see all the other things he spent way more money on have really worked well so far. Also what the hell does "Being mild" have to do with gears making a harmonic vibration>? That made 0 sense. ANY gear swap you do a shaft period. Its standard practice unless your one of the 3.5% who have had success with a 93 shaft. It is not retarded, what is retarded is throwing money at something hat you KNOW 100 times over has already been done with total succsess which is a NEW driveshaft. Lets see what the final outcome will be on this car. Im willing to bet He will end up with a new shaft. Afetr already spending the shaft money or more on things that DO NOT WORK (Using the search would have saved BIG $). Again I have no idea what Im talking about either.

Ok Geno. You tell that to everyone on here that has done a gear swap to do that. Just tell everyone that the actual cost of a gear swap on these cars is really $600 more than they really think it is. I can see the MASSES of people on here have the Denny's shaft after all. LOL Don Pfau? Anything to say here? Oh that's right, he's running a 93 shaft with over 500 rwhp.

Now you explain to me, how could a solid one piece 93 shaft NOT be balanced? No one can balance it? It's impossible? The 93 driveshaft is not really a driveshaft but a figment of our imaginations?

By the way, my buddy's G-body cracks the front tire with 25 psi and he isn't running a $600 driveshaft on his Buick. He has a 1350 yoke on a stock shaft that is PROPERLY BALANCED and he has a 3-speed and turns more rpms than I do with 4.30 gears. LOL

I think by mild he means the gear ratio, not that deep to have vibration issues.

Its the RPMs the shaft is balanced at.
Your car with 4.30s is more demanding then the OP's car with 3.73s. higher shaft RPM at MPH.
Its math.
There are driveline shops that can balance a shaft at 10,000 rpm its a must for dragsters.
We can argue all day if OP needs this or not.
FWIW I run 4.10s with a out of the junkyard 93 shaft that has stock balance.
It is fine for under 100 MPH which is OK by me for a D/D.

If your a broke college student get under your car and pull the shaft and re-phase it.
And or do the hose clamp method as suggested by JA.

BINGO! That I can agree with and I bet a 93 shaft would do just fine. Throw some solid spicers on it and call it a day unless for some odd reason the 93 shaft spontaneously explodes when you try to balance it at such rpms which I HIGHLY DOUBT. lol
 
What does that matter if it's for "Dragsters" have to do with anything, and ANY gear makes these babies SING songs in the driveshaft. The 10,000 rpms means you will NEVER have an issue has NOTHING to do with the mods or if its for "Dragsters" or not it's about the balance. Ask ANYONE with ANY gear other then stock. Again in 17 years I have seen x2 93 shafts not take a hit from gears, thats aboyt a 3% ratio. Again let's see how this ends and we will see.
 
I have 4:10 gears. and a 93 shaft that i bought from sapper. I have no clue if it was balanced or if the joints on it where any good. i had it slapped into my mark. i hit the closest big bridge and took it to about 105-110. zero vibration no hum.

either im in the 3 percent. or the math is busted OR. i just have no clue what im listening too which is a possibility. but the ride was smooth thats all i know.

So the $600 driveshaft option wasn't necessary then as I had stated earlier. Yup, I win.

You would know it. Its a LOUD booming sound that you cannot miss, rear view mirror shaking..etc. You couldn't miss it. More gear the worse. If it as smooth as prior the stock gears then welcome to the 3%ers. To know if your 93 shaft is a "Winner" there will be NO difference in driveline sound after the gear swap.

well thank you. im glad to be a memeber of that club. I have to say that actually the care was smoother with the 4:10 gears and the 93 shaft then it was with the 3.27 gears and the stock shaft. so i cant complain.

Excellent. OP Try to get a 93 shaft locally and give it a try. It would be the last $ to do before a new shaft. Try it, it would be interesting to see the outcome.
 
My 93 W4.10's does the shake @ 75 and up. Not that bad but still there. I can live with it. I have not had the shaft rebalanced from stock.

That's because your stock shaft was a 2-piece design with worn rubber isolator material. All of the 2 piece shafts vibrate because they were a bad design and once the rubber inside craps the bed they are impossible to ever balance again. Just a worthless tube at that point.

Like someone said on here earlier which actually sounded interesting and almost plausible, is to just weld together that joint on the 2-piece where the rubber isolator is and then balance it. It would be interesting to see someone try that and see if we could make some use out of all of the worthless 2-piece shafts that are laying in people's garages and sheds. There's only so many 93 shafts left out there and then everyone is going to have to pay through the nose to get a shaft that doesn't vibrate. Maybe we could at least prolong that amount of time until the suffering begins. LOL

So, who's gonna weld the 2-piece shafts for us?!! :)

I have a 93 shaft with 3:73 gears, I get a slight harmonic vibration at around 78mph.its got Spicer joints in it and ive phased the DS with no luck. It was balanced before it went in.
A few factors to consider here on the shaft its self is the qualityof the.stock used to build it. Tolerance of the tube thickness, sure its balance but if you have a heavy spot on one side in the middle of the tube it will flex. Centered ends is another issue, this is why you have to phase the shaft in many cases. No matter how good the balance if the end is out of spec too much it will vibrate.
Driveline angle, a lot of folks dissmiss this one because of the IRS. If the trans mount is going or gone or the carrier bushings are squishy this will also cause a vibration being there may be too much + or - angle in the drive line. This is a common issue that shows up in the 03/04 cobras.
Trans tailshaft bushing wear can be a factor as well.
I also have a dynotech shaft new in the box to go in with the new motor and trans.
Stromberg you are the first I have heard of with the dynotech shaft that still has a DS vibration.
I hate a car that shakes going down the road.. if I wanted that I would drive a freightliner.
I wish driveline vibration was as easy as a lick it and stick driveshaft fix, from experience I can tell you that's not the case.
 
It's not that bad but yes it has some vibes. It's pretty quiet past 100 mph if I care to risk my driving privileges. LOL
