& this car is making me mad.
I have read about how "easy" it is to change the serpentine belt on the LS.
NO! Lol, it has been a pain in my butt! I can not figure out how to get the belt back on.

I have a 2004 Lincoln LS V8, as well as a 2001 LS V8. My hubby decided he wanted to change the belt on the '04 today. How do we get it back on around the idler pulley!?!?!
Please help me, I want to kick the car about now lol!

Some here claim that they have to take the tensioner off to get the belt around it. I have not had to do so on either of my LSes, but maybe you will. I assume that you really mean the tensioner pulley and not the idler pulley.

It's easier to do with two people, one to hold the tensioner in the non-tension position (use a socket wrench or pull-handle), and the other to pop the belt over the last pulley, but I have done it alone before too.

Here's the belt routing, just in case you need it.

My night just got better, I finally got it on just to find out the belt is about a foot too big!

i did have a little bit of a tricky time getting the belt back between the tensioner and the block. i found it easier to squeeze the belt between there first then route it the rest of the way

Yes, that's the way I do it.

That reminds me, I forgot to check on my belt since macredd went through his.

<scribes note into hand> "must check belt today"

Duck Dynasty, only "the" best television show running these days,

"Hey!", listen here boys ... That's a fact, Jack!

(Uncle SI sayings)

Wow, I'm surprised, it's a big hit, funny as hell.

Bunch of rednecks that became millionaires from building and selling Duck calls.

Duck calls? You messing with me? LOL

Yea, Phil patented a new design and started selling them locally. His third son took them national and they have made zillions! You wouldn't believe it watching the show, but all the Robertsons (except Si) have degrees.

Sort of trivia. Who played quarterback behind Phil Robertson at Louisiana Tech?

Hahaha, y'all straight stole my thread :P

Good news is, after all that fighting yesterday & finally getting the belt back on, I only have a few scratches, and it didn't break ;) (girl joke)

Scratches? Obviously you need more experience. I NEVER get a repair done without at least one good cut! Bleeding on a repair is the only way to make sure it was done correctly!

Agreed! I actually cut my index finger down to the freaking bone working on the engine bay on saturday - top it off i was locked out of the house... i sat outside bleeding for 25 mins before I went in and super glued it shut.

Haha well guys, I do have smaller hands, so I can fit into tighter spaces :P

Replacing the Dccv will lead to some large scratches down the inside of the right arm.

LS4me :: "Terry Bradshaw"

Oh I know. We replaced the DCCV on our 01'. I will never do that again. LOL, she is for sale, too. Hate to see her go :/
