Been dealing with this issue all winter. Everything is working fine. Thermostat is relatively new. No loss of coolant, I'm figuring now that its near spring time to get this issue worked out. It's a 3.9. At times when it was -30 turning the heat past half would cool the car down.. It seems to favour running just below half(temp gauge). Fan doesn't appear to ever run on on high. On the highway it goes down to a quarter at times (temp gauge) ive refused to place any cardboard over the rad. Any suggestions what this could be . I've blead the cooling system and am convinced theres no air in it.. Coolant is 50/50. Anyone else have an LS that run cool?

Mine used to, only in temps below 40°F, but i never got around to fixing it or finding out what it was. I was thinking it might have been my thermostat, but wasnt 100% on that

I just had that issue, replaced t-stat and housing, issue resolved for me, gets to 1/2 on temp gauge in about a mile, used to drive 15 miles and would still be under 1/2, struggled to get to full temp.

thx for the replies. ill look into that again. you really think the thermostat would go bad in 6 months. i changed it in the summer, yes i installed correctly. the car warms up fine in the summer time.

My LS also takes for ever to reach full operating temp. About 15 minutes of city driving when its below freezing. As soon as it's above zero, it's much quicker. It's also much quicker in summer time.

How long has it been since you've changed your coolant and had it tested? This sounds like freezing to me.

If your coolant is not in good condition to handle extreme temps below zero, you will have problems.

Do you use a block heater?

Might have been an option if the car is from up there.

I've seen thermostats fail new out of the box. Luckily for me, none of the failures were on cars that bleeding was an issue on. What brand thermostat did you use?
