I have an SST shifter for my 03 V6. I searched and found instructions on doing the swap on a gen I but nothing specific to gen II. Anyone who has done this have any tips? Is it as straight forward as the gen I?

Thanks

It's the same. The only issue is as there is no sport calibration for the '03-'05 V6 you will lose D4.

So the difference between SST and non-SST in gen II is in the PCM itself and not just the programming?

No, you lose D4 in either gen. The difference is there is a sport (SST-enabled) calibration available for the first gen V6 (the sport package was available; swapped the shifters in my '00 V6) but not the second. There is at least one thread on why D4 disappears. It has to do with the way the PCM reads the vertical/longitudinal/linear position of the shifter.

I've read the sport/SST option was available in gen II V6's in Canada but not in the US. Since this is a Canadian car do think there's a possibility it could be reprogrammed to retain D4?? It's not a deal breaker but I know my OCD will kick in when the shifter says D4 but the trans is in 3rd LOL.

Well then, that DOES make a difference. Yes, you will be able to have a VERY cooperative dealer reprogram the PCM with an available sport calibration. The key is VERY COOPERATIVE dealer.
