I've got some spindles that are already hub-swapped, but before I put them on I want to upgrade the brakes to 13'' rotors.
Here is what i just bought for calipers: 94 C4 vette PBR's (w/brackets)

I'm just wondering how many of you say the rims will clear, and how many say 'close, but not quite'

The vette calipers will work and will clear the 98 Cobra wheels just fine.

You do need the Cobra caliper bracket to match up to the Mark VIII unless you want to modify the spindle.

The vette uses 14mm bolts instead of 12mm so if you decided to stay with the vette brackets you would need to open up the mounting holes in the spindle by 2mm. The offsets and bolt spacing of the bracket is the same as the Cobra.

can I just tighten the 14mm vette bolts til they spin, then give it another 1/2 turn?

not to go off topic...is $105/each a good price for reman cobra calipers...my local napa can get them for me
I got both of those vette calipers for 110 shipped...but I think the Cobra brackets are gonna be about $100 each? or mod the spindle (tap to 14mm)?

Hey Alan...you're only 2 hours away.....what are you doing this weekend?

ah.... You know that Ebay auction is for only one caliper right? (or is that just for the pic, otherwise ignore me.)

Shoot me a PM when you get ready, I have done plenty brake upgrade/hubswaps would be more than happy to help out if you want to make the ride.

Hoping to put the Brembo setup on the Mark this week or next as work and the baby allow lol.

Building a jig right now to hold the spindles so I can "easily" make another set since I will still need a set for my race car when it gets ready.

Really the only reason I broke down and decided to put these on the Mark is because my 95 GT needs the brakes re-done so I want to put the Cobra setup on it....

Will definitely follow your progress and look forward to your evaluation of the performance.

I'd actually like to see some (before and after) braking distance results

No real hard facts to support this since I haven't tested, but I suspect distance will not be much shorter than what can be achived with Cobra calipers.

The moment of torque will be a little greater with the 14inch rotor so that will help, but 4 piston fixed calipers don't really provide increased stopping power. They will however hold stopping power much better under repeated use situations.

Like I said in my original post when I first built the setup I did it for a Thunderbird that we plan on road racing. It is a big, heavy car that will see a lot of braking action, and I have concerns about the Cobra calipers being reliable under those conditions since I have seen many fail on road coursed Mustangs that weigh at least 500 pounds less.

the calipers im looking at are complete with brackets...throw some pads and rotors and away ago...from what i see...will be ordering a pair for my lincoln and a pair for my 98 mustang gt

he had both, listed separately, offered 45 each, he bit.....110 for both shipped

after searching for the Cobra brackets I concluded it wasn't worth the $...so I found some '98 Cobra calps with brackets for 150.....getting the C4 vette PBR calps was a bad idea;
-I'm rebuildng and repainting all 4 calps (front Cobras, rear stock), thought maybe doing the rears was a waste but wth....most any mod (not repair) done could be deemed a 'waste', right?...thought maybe I could find rotors made in USA, thought wrong unless I want factory oem from the stealer for $215 each...even Federals are made off-shore now...
-does anybody know which rear rotors I can use for stock M8 brakes with 4.5'' hubs? base or GT rotors?
I already have the M8 rear rotors which were machined to 4.5'' lug pat but thought about getting new rear rotors also at this time

For everyone with Cobra two piston brake set up, what's the size of the banjo bolt? According to O'Reilley Auto, it's supposed to be M10 X 1.5. I picked up a loaded pair of calipers, and the bolt stops after one turn. It seams smaller. Any ideas?

You need to ask for the one for a Cobra.. m10 x 1.5 is the Mark bolt, which is the same as many many many other ford calipers

just checked to make sure; Cobra BB on the left (5/8''), Mark on the right (10mm)
