Hey guys. been holing out but finally got the air ride display. been dropping overnight and long pump ups when leaving highway. Cold weather in N.Y. has pushed it along I beleive.
I have removed front bags and shock to install conversion kit in my last 96 ( hated the ride and sat lower) but I have not remove and replaced. I have done the backs and the forum was very helpfull to solve my inflating problem ( needed to replace and seal rings)
Anthing tip wise i need to know when remoning and replacing fronts? Black on black 97
 
I think you need new front air shocks and you should be set. AVS-16 & AVS-17 are what you need.

Never mind that. I registered for the site ad then searched again and now it says they aren't in stock. For $202, I was going to get another one and throw that bad boy on eBay lol
 
yesterday I called 'Auto Parts Tomorrow'...seems like they primarily sell to commercial accounts..the price they have listed is if you have an account with them....they also siad they don't expect to get it in stock..it's kind of a bogus ad from what I can tell Dotson Industries in Albany, Ga has the AVS17, but you can't get it unless you have an acct with APT...I also need new suspension but bon't foresee getting new fronts for less than 350 each...:mad:

I have an online account with them and until I signed in, it said the AVS-17 was in stock but when I signed in, it then said they were out of stock. I too do not see them getting anymore in either. This is the beginning of some of these parts places running out of them since they weren't made past 2010. Now the prices are going to be higher and as they sell out, the next man is going to be even higher, until someone reaches the $500 bill for one air shock. I knew this day was coming and it's starting now. Now eBay is the best place to find them in the $300's but that won't last past the end of the year and they'll be sold out. Quote me saying that lol.

Take those front wheels off every so often and use a rubber conditioner on them, mainly on the bottom half. they might just end up going another 3 to 5 years and not give you a problem. I wished you could have gotten some before the price hike. The $600 pairs are gone now and won't be coming back again.
 
meh...I'd like to stick w/ air for the white '96 (but, $1,200 susp on my $700 car???)

Yes, I was just on there. $338 shipped for the AVS-16 and $331.12 for the AVS-17 and I doubt they will be found any cheaper. Be nice if they were free shipping. $658.72 for both really isn't that bad. I paid $723 for both but that was before I really dug deep and found the good prices. Seems like I would have done that before buying lol. I was in a hurry I guess.

I've been spraying the front and rear springs with silicone spray periodically. What kind of "rubber conditioner" do you use? I was thinking of taking the wheels off and smearing a generous helping of silicone grease all over the springs every couple of months. Anything I can do to prolong their life will be helpful :)
 
they are on the way from Sarad $42 ship and $58 tax sucked brought total to $717 for L & R Motocraft new. Didnt really shop around. Just did not know if there were any helpfull hints. Will be in the driveway Sat. at least its mild here for N.Y. in Jan

let us know the item quality; I asked the owner of Am Air Susp to price match, he said he couldn't, and suggested the struts from Sarad: "...must be one of those dealer send back items."
I don't know what that implies, but I presume he's saying they must be second rate struts....?
 
I'm sure they are brand new, one of my boxes was already open, the other sealed.
Both were were new and unused.
 
I was told they were being sent from the N.J. Ford wearhouse we will see. They were very helpfull and are going to deliver them to me at work so I will have them to install Sat. could have blown me off or stuck with ups but are sending one of thier truck.So far good experience with them. I hope for the same Sat. in the driveway.
 
on my white '96: let's say I replace the front air bags with new oem; but after i do the job, the front continues to slam, even though I hear the comp running..what else could cause that and how much might it cost?
also, when replacing front (and/or rear) struts/bags, whcih bushings should 'typically be inspected/replaced? strut rod bushings? etc?

I consider the rear and front air bag to be live rubber. It flexes and rolls up and down. Pretty much live IMO. It does cost but it seems to be doing fine so far. I use it on the fronts about every 3 to 4 months. Rears, every 6 months or so. Nothing thick but a coating and cleaning and they still look new up front. I'll get pics the next time I do it. I'm going to look for something different because the bottle is a bit little for $30 but it does seem to work like Lexol does on leather. I'll never stop using Lexol.

Not 2nd rate. They are NIB just like autopartstomorrow has or had. That's being said so you'll jump at those $435 air shocks. $723 was enough for me, I ain't paying $870 + shipping of around $40 but I do recommend Eddies compressors all day long.

I'd say the vent solenoid on the compressor is stuck open or possibly a seal isn't sealing or an air line is cut or not pressed in like it should be. New OEM fronts come with new seals already in the solenoids so, I would really suspect the compressor having a stuck open vent. I would get a compressor from Eddie and send your old one back to him within 30 days and be done with that whole deal.
