I havea 2004 Lincoln LS V8, I'm out of town returning home with my family and check engine light came on. I have about a 3 hour drive and the codes P2195,2197, & 0133 came on. I researched adn found them to do with fuel and.or oxygen sensor. Can I drive and be ok to make it back home the next 3 hours???

How does the engine run when its on?

Edit: Check to see if your gas cap is on tight

So my best guess here, is your COPS are failing and tripping your CEL.

- The P0133 could indicate driver side oxygen (CKT) senor. (Exhaust related)

- The P2197 is the IGNITION COIL on cylinder one.

- The P2195 would indicate your engines running lean. So if you should chose to drive it, expect a probability in decrease of fuel mileage.

So I THINK you can drive it back, so long as the engine seems ok. But you will definitly have to replace your spark plugs and Coils when you get back. And that should take care of all those codes.

Actually,

P0133 - Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank1, Sensor1)
P2195 O2 Sensor Signal Biased/Stuck Lean Bank 1 Sensor 1
P2197 O2 Sensor Signal Biased/Stuck Lean Bank 2 Sensor 1

This indicates that you may have air leak on the engine somewhere between the MAF and the cylinder heads or between the exhaust manifold and O2 sensor (although I doubt this since you aren't reporting that the car is louder than before), or a fueling issue like dirty injectors, clogged fuel filter or a failing fuel pump. Since I assume it was running OK before the trip and it just came on, if the car's not acting strange otherwise I would say you're safe to drive it home as-is. No road races though, as a lean engine can burn through a piston.

For the trip home put a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner in before you head home. You might also go ahead and change the fuel filter if you have the facilities to, then make sure you don't fuel up on the way home at any place you fueled up at on the way out. It just takes one tank to foul a filter and you were filling up at unfamiliar places assuming you went further than one tank out. It's also possible to get bad gas at an otherwise dependable station if you buy at the same time the fuel truck is refilling the tanks as the filling process will stir up any trash in the station's tank. It takes about a half hour for it to all settle out. When you get home, clear the codes then see if they return. If they do we can proceed with the next step when you get home.

My bad. I just took it from this guy::

"Peter Zapp 8471 solutions Apr 15, 2010

PO-430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)
PO-0301 Should be a misfire on COP Coil #1
PO-316 Misfire Occured in the First 1000 Engine Revolutions
P-2195 Lack of HO2-11 Switch/Lean
P2197 Lack of HO2-21

I have the same vehicle,only a V8
What you have is a very common ford problem. The Ignition Coil on Cylinder #1 is Bad."

Seemed confident he knew what he was talking about. Perhaps the addition of the other codes (in that OPs scenario) changes the cause of the problem..

Yes, P0301 is a very telling code as it says specifically that #1 is misfiring. That will make the bank run rich which will then set off the O2 codes.

EMERGENCY..Update

Thank you all for your help. My family and I made it home safely. The car rode pretty good at about 70-75 but I could feel some slight hesitation when increasing speed. A couple of weeks prior I would get in my car in the am and it would have the shakes and alomost feel and sound like it was going to cut off but once on the rode no problems. I thought maybe it was bad gas or something??? Still not sure as too problem until check engine light with codes listed prior this am. Any suggestions, can I fix this myself??

^+1 Still have this issue once in a while, particularly when it's cold outside. I don't get it as often since I switched to premium gas, but it still happens. I'm interested for a solution also.

My suggestions would be first to clean your MAF sensor with some CNC cleaner and second listen for any "sucking" sounds in the engine bay which could be indicative of a vacuum leak. If neither of those work you may have an issue with clogged cats caused by driving with misfires for too long which could choke out your engine and cause the erratic idling.

You DO known the LS requires 91+ octane, correct? It's even on a sticker on the fuel filler door.

Here comes the inane regular vs. premium discussion.......

If you're suspecting you had a bad tank of gas I'd change the fuel filter first, and cut it open to verify. This can be done by you. I recommend Wix filters as they are made in America by Dana Corp, and have always worked very well for me. It only takes one bad tank to destroy a filter, and I've even seen it take up to three filter replacement within a week or two to get all the crap out of the tank. If the filter is relatively clean, then start looking for a vacuum leak on top of the engine. If nothing is found you will need to check fuel pressure. All this can be done by you with simple hand tools other than the fuel pressure, which will require that you have a gauge to test it with.

I remember even SPSullys LS would slightly hesitate. But very very subtle. My LS's do it once in a while, But not often at all. Id say seldom at best. But still happens. I use Full synthetic on both my LS's.

It never really bothered me because of how seldom it happens. Could switching from crude oil to Full synthetic help this issue out?
