So i got my speed-o gear today i also went and got a new VSS figured id swap em out. who has pictures of em because i sure as hell cant seem to find it?

Thanks. by the way google searching the forum was just as crappy as the forum search :)
 
on top of the trans. in the out put shaft housing i believe. so towards the tail end.

thats a lovely picture :) thanks. sorry not trying to be a dick. if its on top of the trans then im fked because i cant afford to have someone take out my transmission to change this thing. from everything i read and saw its on the bottom of the trans just a little ways back behind the mirror as a reference point near the tail of the transmission. however i cant seem to see the damn thing
 
I found it. its hidden behind to big ass wire looms that connect to two other sensors. ill take a picture and post it so if some other poor fool like me cant locate it they will be able to see where its at

thanks. i actually got a new jack for xmas. its pretty awesome. the first time ever i was able to get the car high enough to put on jack stands. Bryan and I did some stuff this weekend we had the car up in the air and the bumper off the front. It was nice. got a nice low profile 3 ton jack that goes about 18.25 inches up.


so i tried to get a picture of the area but i was blocked by the damn things that were pissing me off. so heres a picture of what i was talking about. I had to borrow a friend that had smaller hands and could get in and actually reach the bolt its self.

You can almost see the bolt head just beyond the harnesses that made me wanna burn something to the ground :)

this is only temporary mostly because I dislike duralast parts. However, I figured since i was in there id be preventive and just replace the VSS along with the gear. I kept the original because i plan on putting that gear back in along with a new motorcraft VSS and then install a speed cal so its done correctly. I figure if i can't swing the 120 bucks for a sped cal by the time i drive 5-7k miles on the car which is when those gears are expected to start to break down. Then i deserve to have the ish in my trans for being a tard.

After the swap I grabbed out the gps and we hit the street. The black 23 tooth gear had me about .5-1.0mph faster then what my speed-o was reading. Thats good enough for me.

Taking out one bolt,sliding out the VSS that he has in his pic then with screwdriver slide off the c clip that holds gear on and remove. Put new gear on slide in c clip and put back in trans.
 
Yep pretty much what he said. I dont even think you need a screw driver. all we used was a ratchet with 11mm socket and a swivel head with an extension. If you have small hands its not that bad of a job. Its a little bit of a bich to put the bolt back in but should take ya 20 minutes give or take 10 :)
 
I believe the black one is a nylon one that stands up just a little bit better or its a marketing gimmick. but yea 23 tooth is what ya want for a 4.10
 
What are the two right below it DLF? those were the ones making life suck for me today. and thank you that picture is awesome. As someone said in a different post all your stuff is gold when ya share it.
 
I believe you need the 21 tooth (don’t know the color), I can’t remember what is in mine but I have 3.73:1 and it is a corrected gear. It's fairly close to accurate. Call up Max at 5 star Ford, he will know for sure what you need. You only need to lift the driver’s side of the car up and take one bolt out like they said, easy stuff.

"Ford speedometer driven gears for automatic transmissions. AOD transmissions use either a 7 or 8 tooth drive gear. Once you change the gears in your differential or tire size, you need a new speedometer driven gear to recalibrate your speedometer. They're inexpensive and only take a few minutes to change. We have 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 tooth gears. The 16 tooth gears have longer teeth because they fit more than one application. 23 tooth Ford speedometer driven gears for use with 4.10 gears with 7 tooth shafts in automatic transmissions."

MAx retired months ago. he is no longer a viable option. it is also a 23 tooth gear you want for 4.10 gears
