oil filter aptr gasket struggle

Mine went when I was sitting in my Mark during lunch. This is the death trail it left just pulling from where I was parked into the bay of the Hyundai dealership to replace it.

This is what I removed, note the lack of any of the black gasket that lett he rubber part release all the oil

This thread is like watching two retards try to **** a football.

my god...what a mess a simple task has turned Into...cut rad hoses, busted radiator, main cap bolts removed...holy ****...you hit the nail on the head with that comment

OP...torque that main cap bolt when installing...

I just changed mine - it only leaked when the engine was cold, once it warmed up it was fine. When I removed it, it looked fine and for what it's worth, I didn't have a whole lot of problems changing it, removed three of the bolts with a 3/8" extension through the fender and got the bottom 4th bolt from under the car - slid the old one out and the new one in.

Mine definitely didn't look at bad as that broken one above! Didn't look bad at all, actually:

The oil port gaskets are both trashed.. yes it looks that bad, thou not as bad as the broken one. The very inner part of the orange gasket should bulge, in your pic they're completely flat which is bad enough to leak

....never done this task before, and doing it after dark on jack stands in 25 degrees can lead to mistakes made...like taking out the wrong bolt..so next time it will be a 'simple task'
...the how-to write-up from LOD said to remove he hoses; in hindsight, after it didn't come off when I had only 3 of 4 bolts out, I thought the hoses were preventing it from falling off, that's why i tackled the hoses.....oh well, painful learning experience...I should've been certain of the bolt pattern before starting
...
'main cap bolt'...how much torque? 14-16 ft/lbs?

Whats yalls deal about the hose... its a hose, a small one, hard to get to
.. and NEEDS to be changed periodically ANYWAY. If its time to replace a gasket that sits 4 inches from it, wouldn't it be wise to PREVENT another future leak?

That's why I laugh at those of you with 160k on your cars and then wonder why its broken and the comment comes out "I've never had to anything to it"

I have 210,000 miles on my LSC and I didn't change it. Of course, it doesn't leak so I didn't mess with it!

well I visually inspect my hoses on my car periodically....and from what I found seldomely does a rad hose fail unless installed correctly...coolant was contaminated in some way..so from how I see it he ruined a perfectly good hose.. $10-20-50 it doesn't matter...my old 93 had 300, 000 and counting rad hoses were In perfect condition...

when doing a repair on a newer car do you cut the rad hose off because of a simple to use spring clamp? cause I dont and never have...a simple $30 pair of pliers and spring clamps are no big deal infact in most cases I reinstall them...

op I give you merit for trying but you turned a mole hill into a mountain and costed yourself more money for nothing

Yes, specs are 14-17 ft/lbs so you are right on.

I confess: I'm not a mechanic by trade; I'm a vascular technologist who used to build houses for 20 years; my job gets boring so I f*%k with one of my two my old ass Fords for 'fun'....this one's not my daily driver so it doesn't matter how long it takes
...yep, I pay to replace hoses on a car with 109k miles? yea, I'm a retard...the one thing I didn't do was pay $100/hr to some crooked-ass mechanic to fix this problem and tell me I need to pay him for the other problems he intentionally caused
...again, in hindsight, all I had to do was look at the new gasket (before starting) to be certain where the 4 o.f.a bolts are...

My black mustang in my sig has the original radiator hoses from 1994. And it has almost 240k on it. No signs of wear or fatigue. The original 1994 sticker fell off of the upper hose a few months ago and I still have it somewhere. Only thing I did was get rid of the spring clamps and put screw style clamps in it when I did a water pump somewhere around 100k ago.

since I spilled coolant on my serp belt, it gets replaced too!
even though it looks pretty good ...
fwiw.... I bought this car two weeks ago, with 109k miles for $700...no maint records

You got a good deal!

needs o.f.a.gask/opsu, blend door repair, headlights, tires...prolly coils sooner than later...it's a better hobby than whiskey, women, and drugs

better hobby, yes because when the women whiskey and drugs run out. the marks are still there! in my case setting slammed on the airride awaiting new vavle cover gaskets.

Atleast you guys are fixing/driving yours. I haven't truely enjoyed my Mark since '09. Got it fixed after totalling it just for the trans to go out only after a few months.
