This thread is like watching two retards try to **** a football.
I just changed mine - it only leaked when the engine was cold, once it warmed up it was fine. When I removed it, it looked fine and for what it's worth, I didn't have a whole lot of problems changing it, removed three of the bolts with a 3/8" extension through the fender and got the bottom 4th bolt from under the car - slid the old one out and the new one in.
Mine definitely didn't look at bad as that broken one above! Didn't look bad at all, actually:

....never done this task before, and doing it after dark on jack stands in 25 degrees can lead to mistakes made...like taking out the wrong bolt..so next time it will be a 'simple task'my god...what a mess a simple task has turned Into...cut rad hoses, busted radiator, main cap bolts removed...holy ****...you hit the nail on the head with that comment
OP...torque that main cap bolt when installing...
I have 210,000 miles on my LSC and I didn't change it. Of course, it doesn't leak so I didn't mess with it!

...the how-to write-up from LOD said to remove he hoses; in hindsight, after it didn't come off when I had only 3 of 4 bolts out, I thought the hoses were preventing it from falling off, that's why i tackled the hoses.....oh well, painful learning experience...I should've been certain of the bolt pattern before starting
...
'main cap bolt'...how much torque? 14-16 ft/lbs?
.. and I don't necessarily mean LVCers, just people in general
I'm actually saddened when our cars are broken, cause I like driving around and being able to point and say "ooh look! A Mark Viii"

I confess: I'm not a mechanic by trade; I'm a vascular technologist who used to build houses for 20 years; my job gets boring so I f*%k with one of my two my old ass Fords for 'fun'....this one's not my daily driver so it doesn't matter how long it takesop I give you merit for trying but you turned a mole hill into a mountain and costed yourself more money for nothing
since I spilled coolant on my serp belt, it gets replaced too!
even though it looks pretty good ...
fwiw.... I bought this car two weeks ago, with 109k miles for $700...no maint records
Atleast you guys are fixing/driving yours. I haven't truely enjoyed my Mark since '09. Got it fixed after totalling it just for the trans to go out only after a few months.
