Good article

I hope they do get more RWD cars out. I just sent Ford an email yesterday asking them when they plan to come out with another full size rear wheel drive V8 because I'm getting ready to replace my Lincoln LS with a new car and they don't have anything in their lineup right now that I'd buy. Twisted the knife a bit by telling them that I was looking at a Dodge Charger to replace my LS specifically because it's a large rear wheel drive car that can be had with a V8. This is a knife twist because it tells them that their current cars have caused an existing Ford buyer to change brands. I also mentioned that I absolutely would not even consider a front wheel drive for any reason. If we all start doing this on a regular basis, and if we can get the owners of the other makes on here to do the same, perhaps it'll percolate high enough that they'll give this a little more consideration. Who knows, might even see the return of the LS.

Too bad it won't pass emissions or safety regs..... Remember the challenges GM had for the GTO? That turned out to be a failure. Besides, who wants to drive upside-down?
 
Got a response back from Ford. Apparently, they listen to people that post to http://social.ford.com. I say everyone go on there and hit all the posts related to rear wheel drives, making sure to mention that the last car you bought was a rear wheel drive Ford and the next one you buy won't be a Ford because they no longer make rear wheel drives.

Yet again, I hope they call it the MKL with a optional S sports package (MKL-S ;p). I just really hope this does happen because right now it's looking like Jag XFR if I can afford it, Caddy ATS if I cant...

Lol not 'seriously' considering, as I'm still a student. But I'm always thinking about possibilities for the future when I have a career and such. Just sort of looking at what my reasonable upgrade paths would be a few years down the line

My question comes down to how 'Practical' a RWD Lincoln is in the SALES world against Jap import luxury vehicles.


I'm not sure how common these vehicles are in the USA, but the Lexus IS250, Acura TL, and Infiniti G37's are a dime a dozen in Brampton, Newmarket, Mississauga and north parts of Toronto. I cant go a day without seeing myriads of these vehicles.

These vehicles are the top $30K sellers, 1 of which is FWD (Honda platform)
Sales for these three in the USA for September 2012 follows::
The IS Lexus series sold 21, 107 units
The (FWD) Acura TL Sold 26, 848 units
The Infiniti G37 Sold 91,907 units

The Infiniti Seems to be doing well in the USA, keeping in mind USA is the last country in the world to finally accept Jap imports...

Im not an automotive sales expert. Far from it. However, I get a gut instinct a RWD Lincoln whom of which will be facing these opponents in the sales world, might struggle badly due to the well built reputation and desired effect these imports have on themselves, over Fords domestic luxury brand..

There are many, many of us dying to purchase a RWD AMERICAN "luxury" car (none of your listed vehicles are pure luxury cars; they are best described as near luxury or sport luxury). I won't buy a Jap car unless Ford forces me to (I won't own a Gummint Motors car for various reasons). I would rather keep my money here instead of sending it to a foreign country.

Not having a domestic car manufacturer yourself I can understand your lack of understanding our reluctance to embrace a foreign manufacturer. I don't see many made (not assembled) in Canada labels.
 
Yeah I refuse to buy Jap. I actually live in MI (not to downplay others devotion) so I am VERY devoted to American cars, specifically Fords (I've never much liked Chrysler, and now even less). It's all I've ever owned so far. The only reason I would buy something other than Ford is if they can't get their RWD act together before my next car purchase. I really like RWD personally and am willing to limit myself to that.
 
I myself only consider RWD cars. The Charger has been my favorite possibility as a replacement for my LS, then I had the incident with my LS that allowed me to experience the Chrysler way of life behind the wheel of a mighty Avenger. And, much like the Avengers in the movie, 2 hours after driving the car the way I drive a car the Avenger is tired, beaten and worn, making strange noises and emitting odd, disturbing odors. I'm not so sure a Dodge product would be a good thing to buy anymore if one can't last a week under my right heel. True, it's a FWDPOS crackerbox just like all the other ones out there bar none, but you'd think that it would be able to handle me for a week. I'd hate to see how this car would have handled a 20ish year old me if it can't handle a 40ish year old me. I drive a lot more calmly than I used to.

So, going to be looking at the new Chevy SS if it comes out, or if it looks like Lincoln is going to provide a Coyote powered RWD sedan I'll stick the LS out an extra year.

I made the mistake of reading that "article" a few days ago; it is a complete waste of time, and utter rubbish. Angus Mackenzine is a moron, plain and simple; he assumes that the cost of building an E-Class and a Taurus are similar, with no supporting data (which he admits), then he completely ignores the fact that the Taurus does see economies of scale in the fact that its powertrain and platform are shared with many other Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

It's a load of ill-informed hooey, and that's all it is.
