doing j-mod.. who left out both lower springs?

Yes a J-mod is good for it and will extend its life unless it has never been serviced and the fluid looks bad. Then the fluid change that goes with the J-mod could cause problems. Good luck with both.

THis is my issue. im at 155k and i dont think anyone has ever changed the fluid. all well gota do it and hope for the best. if not. time to rebuild the rest of the internals.

Remember that when you do the JMOD, you are not losing as much fluid though so it won't be as much of a "shock" to the system as if you were replacing the entire capacity inside the transmission. I have a 92 F-150 and did a pan drop and filter with 150K on the clock when it developed a shudder. 5000 miles later the shudder is still completely gone and the transmission shifts perfect. The fluid didn't look the greatest either, but doing just a pan drop and filter is a more gradual way of freshening up the fluid. If you get ambitious, you could even service it again in another 6 months with a pan drop and filter and that will gradually freshen up the entire system a bit more. Then after that if all is still well, I would do a pan drop and filter annually from there forward. Don't flush the transmission with that much age, just keep it a gradual maintenance.

Thanks for the info. i was planning on draining the pan and the convertor and putting merc v in it. maybe ill hold off on the draining the torq and see how it goes. does merc 3 and merv 5 mix well ?

With just a jmod, k&n panel filter, removed air silencer I would chirp 2nd.

..but yes, I now have 4.10s , an eaton diff, and an xcal3 with a tune so its a little more "gnarly" on the shifting.:p
