A few weeks back I turned on the A/C and hot air was coming out. Thinking that the coolant was low I drove to the local Auto parts store to recharge the system. We could not find the fill point so I decided to drive back and in a matter of just one mile the car over heated and ended up blowing off one of the caps on the coolant manifold. One the last quarter mile to the house the car over heated to the point where the check engine light came on and the fail safe mode came one. I barely made it to the drive way and the car died. I replaced the coolant manifold and to do so I had to remove the intake manifold. After putting everything back together the fail safe mode was still on and noticed that the engine cooling fan was not working. I replaced it with a generic fan that matched the air movement from the original, however it only requires the power supply and not a secondary connection as the original, but the fan does work. I replaced the throttle body and the fail safe went away but the car would not start. It’s symptoms were the same as when you start it with a key that has not been programmed. It would start but die after a second. The only problem was that after several attempts it would start and run for a while but when I would try to accelerate it dies once it passes 2500 RPMs. From all the post that I have seen on the issue I have replaced all coil packs (complete assembly) and the spark plugs. I even replaced the fuel filter thinking that it was restricting the flow and was starving the engine of proper fuel. I have checked all relays and fuses and nothing, they are all still good.
The symptom persists, the car starts up and then dies, only after over thirty or forty attempts it runs but once I press the gas and go over 2500 RPMs it dies but starts back up and stays running. Money is low so I am looking for a solution from you guys and thinking of the dealer as a last resort since I know that the Virginia Beach area is known for pocket pinching dealers.
