What did I get into?

Ok so I got myself a 2000 Lincoln LS V8 with 175,000km and im in my 3rd week of waiting for them to get the car ready for me they have changed.

-Fan assembly
-Radiator hydraulic pump?
-Tie rods
-Battery
-Alternator
-Rear bushings?
-Front and rear brakes
-Coil pack X2

now their waiting on other parts for the car that they say are hard to find (something to do with the rear suspension) is this a normal thing with these cars are parts that hard to find for this car?

I have had a S4, Chrysler 300m, Mustang's, Jeep's, Civic's and have never had to put this much work into any of them.
Is this common with these car that its going to spend more time in the shop then on the road?
 
Parts are becoming more and more difficult to find. Especially cheap alternatives since it's going on 7 years now since it has been made so no parts supplier is going to make their own brand of maintenance items. The aftermarket for the cars is much the same, non-existant. Best bet is to scour the net for parts from places like rockauto.com, fordpartsgiant.com, or go to your local dealer for them.

Sounds like you got one that wasn't well taken care of. Hope you didn't pay too much for it.
 
It came with a 27 month warranty unlimited km on the motor and tranny from a third party warranty company and Im not paying for any of the work being done now the dealer I bought it from is paying for this work so im glade that the shop found all these problems before I took it.

Ok so what happened here is this car was badly neglected.

-Alternator not common to go. They're sturdy.
-coil pack is common. Should replace them with sparks,
-Rear bushings are warn naturally.
-Battery on ANY vehicle goes. Its prolly an OEM battery never replaced.
-Tie rods, i can see this if this car has hit bad potholes or curbs
-Breaks again ANY car
-Hydraulic pump and fan assembly are prolly ceased because the car was either parked or the previous owner didn't check the hydraulic fluid.

K straight up, if this much work has to be done, then definitely this car was either parked for a long period of time, or the previous owner was a noob and didn't check his fluids and maintenance.

Can i offer some advice? Check under the car, directly below the door. Feel with your hand the FRAME of the vehicle for Rust or wholes in the frame. This car sounds parked and could be in bad shape underneath
 
rust proofing is incredibly important. Alot of people go the cheap route and buy that garbage electric rust proof. Dont. get it done by KROWN rust proofing. Once a year, it only cots $100 bucks and saves your cars life.

And i havent had an issue with parts. Ford always can get them, and Napa, Car quest, Canadian tire etc..
 
The dealer had this car for about 3months and before that the previous owner had it from new older male the original bill of sale was in the glove box so im not sure i looked at the under of the car and it looked good when it was up at the shop before buying it used but good NO holes
 
thanks ill have to rust check it FORSURE I seen the under of the car at the shop before buying it and it was good NO holes used but good the original bill of sale was in the owners hand hook in the glove box (older male) ill be the 2nd owner on it so im not sure what the previous owner treated the car like but the car is clean in and out everything works
 
As a different viewpoint, I bought an '02 in '10 that had been *very* well maintained, but I had to do just about everything on that list. Some of these items are a little unique (hydraulic fan) and don't get attention unless they really need it. And the coil failures are in such a manner that most folks don't address it until it's very bad.
The hydraulic fan probably did not need replacing, but it's easier for a dealer to throw parts at it than fix the root cause.
And since the alternator sits right under the hyd fan pump, and leaks do occur, well, gen 1 alt failures certainly do happen. And 12 years on an alternator is pretty good! If it was already a replacement, then 6 months on it is pretty good!

IMO, all of that is normal freshening. Only those of us crazy enough to really like these cars and pay attention to these forums will have all of that stuff in good shape at all times.

Make sure the spark plugs were also replaced. Check for the tranny solenoid symptoms when you get it (particularly harsh/delayed N to D or N to R shift - note that the "crouch" is normal), go ahead and pay for a full tranny fluid exchange.
Otherwise, enjoy! Just about all of the maintenance work possible has been done, so it should be in good shape for several years.
 
You purchased a 13 year old vehicle with over 100K miles...what did you expect?

If you dont want issues anytime soon so get a loan and find an 06 with 40K miles on it or go buy a new econobox.
 
Ya everything on that list is common LS stuff. But like oddball said, you should be good for several years. You may have to replace more COP's in the future but untill you replace them all at once then you will have that issue. Maybe some more suspension parts will go south on you (wheel bearings, ball joints, stabilizer bar bushing and links, etc) too. The LS is a great car but they do require maintenance more than some cars and the parts are a bit more expensive...but hey, its a Lincoln!

Maybe next time ill get a "loan" any buy one of those "econobox" thanks for all the help there BlackLS06 :) but wat i was asking was. Is this common?

That's an almost unanswerable question... As with any car, it depends on how well it's been taken care of (driver history, maintenance, car history, mechanical ability, etc.) ... I can count on one hand how many times its "been in the shop"... Parts... what do you consider tough, can you walk into any store and pick parts of the shelf, no... can you (I) find any part im looking for with a little work, almost always. Will this be you first car?
 
Other issues you will have if it hasn't been addressed are:
Suspension (bushings/ball joints fail)
Cooling parts (plastic fails)
Timing chain tensioners (probably the most critical, if they fail your engine is toast)

Those are all the common issues that these cars seem to be in the shop for.
 
I dont know why it wasnt putting up my msg I posted but there all there now so w e they had to do some Suspension bushings also forgot to put that up there.

I had a 01 s4 in 05 so I now about parts being hard to get not every shop or store carrys parts for them either lots of dealer only parts (at least when i owned it)

thanks for all the advice with what I shoud be looking for and what I should address.
