That huge damn silencer right in the front of the engine bay connected to the air intake tube....is that hard to remove like could I just cut it off and rtv silicone a piece of something over the old hole to cover it up? Doesn't that rob some power and how much quieter does it actually make it? Or will I cut that off and be screwed in some way after I do? Anyone actually have some pictures of this done too? Anyone know why I ask so many damn questions?

You mean this?

I did this back in 2003.

It's easy to cut off with a Dremal tool. I then cut out a patch from the silencer piece and epoxied it to the hole. It took a couple of hours to do.

This mod does increase the intake sound of the engine, but it alone does not increase engine performance. Adding the KKM CAI filter kit will give you more performance though.

I had no problems with this mod and thought it looked a lot better than stock.

Assuming he knows those hoses (I believe vacuum unless I'm mistaken) are important, there's nothing in the pic showing that there isn't a grommet glued in or something that the hoses are attached to. Unless the one from eBay he has pictured is the exact one that was used.

Can't tell you what was done with the lines, in the pics above it looks like they were left unplugged. Unlikely but that's what it's looking like.

The long one is the "chassis vacuum hose."
The short one is the crankcase vent tube.

Fipk ftw!

Agreed, seems like so many people have run it with out issues that it shouldn't be debatable anymore in any aspect. Is it a power adder? Who the hell cares it's your car do what you want. Does it sound better? Yes. Shutchya pie hole. Does it clean it up a bit under there? The definition of clean is is open for debate. Carry on.

:Beer we'll all get there one day

As long as joegr never gets there, we're safe. Didn't notice the banned members. *Checks* Holy Motown! Then again a lot of posts by the same banned individuals.

didn't really like more oil/vapors getting pumped down the intake....probaly emission illegal but oh well...

You didn't stop that. The line that you disconnected from the intake is the air inlet to the crankcase. The air outlet with the oil/vapors that you are concerned about is connected after the throttle plates, to full manifold vacuum. (It's a hose/tube from the passenger side valve cover.) All you changed is that the air going through the crankcase and into the intake is no longer being metered by the MAF.

You are doing your engine no favors at all. The oil in the engine is getting way more contaminated with combustion byproducts than it normally would. You are definitely reducing you engine's life, for no positive benefit.

I'm not gonna get into a pissing match with you dude, this isn't a supercharged/turbo'd motor.

I'm very much with Joe here. PCV has been on every engine since, what, the 60's? 50's? for a reason.
Drag racers run crankcase vacuum pumps, although for different reasons.
At the very least, you'll need to change your oil much more often. And the oil/air separator in the valve cover is actually quite good. If oil is getting past that, they something is wrong. It's not just a baffle.
