On earth.
Now some of you may remember that I've been having degas bottle problems. Well they got a little bit worse. The LS decided that it's relationship with the majority of its coolant was not working out.

Before I get scolded on here about not getting it taken care of sooner let me say this. I work...a lot. Especially this week. I am a State Trooper and the hours are just a little bit long. I am usually getting about 5-6 hours of sleep a night when we are busy. I had ordered my OEM degas bottle from the dealer and I was going to replace it this Sunday when I was off.

In the meantime I was still driving the vehicle about 30 miles a day on backroads to get to work because frankly I didn't have a choice. I had been monitoring the coolant and I've bled it off since this problem began, just trying to stave it off till Sunday.

Well here we are at 6:43 am on Saturday and I just got to work after getting the vehicle towed to my local dealer. I bought an extended factory warranty on the vehicle when I got it, and the deductible is only $200 so I will only be out $200 after they refund my price for the Degas bottle.

So long story short, I could have replaced the degas myself for $180 plus my own time. Now I am going to pay $200 to have someone else replace it along with whatever decided to rupture this morning. Not that big of an issue, but I would have rather avoided all this if possible.

The biggest irritant will be driving some 4 cylinder pos rental for a week :yuck:

So word to the wise. Don't try to stretch that out. Replace that as soon as it goes bad, but I am sure everyone already knew that.

We are not all that far from each other. I am just west of Huntington.

Yep. Too bad 79 is a barren wasteland or I would say we could meet halfway somewhere. We can keep in touch if either of us happen to be in Charleston at the same time.

So word to the wise....

5-6 hours of sleep a night ?

oh yeah, that's cool, you troopers have to get back on-duty to verify
truckers log books, making sure "they" are taking 10hrs off duty !

Imagine that ~ New World Order at it's finest ?

sorry, but I see em, how I read em !

Apples to oranges...

Apples to oranges...

I doubt it ... same thing !

5-6 hours rest is not nearly enough to go back on duty and operate any motor vehicle, regardless of profession.

NY for instance, 12 hour on duty rule applies,

12.6 Troopers shall not be scheduled to work in excess of 12 hours in one tour of duty.

and a little further down it reads,

... will not be recalled to duty less than 10 hours after the end of their last tour of duty.

I'm sure they have the same regulations for WV

Any job has working hours regulated due to safety.

Nonetheless ~ a far cry from a DEGASS bottle

(sorry)

Yep! Same thing... my bad.

-I forgot troopers get paid by the mile and therefor have motivation to drive longer.

-I forgot troopers don't get paid if they are looking for speeders roadside.

-Same size and weight too right....?

Apples and oranges...

It's about the total hours at work on duty you fool !!!

You could be making f*cking pizzas with a hot oven with only 5-6 hrs of rest and it would be against the law.

Now stop comparing fruits here and realize it's not "appropriate" to have that small
amount of rest and then jump in behind any steering wheel again and jeopardize
the safety of others.

Steering wheel holder or not, any job with that little rest in between duty becomes
a hazard ... Imagine you being a DEGAS bottle technician and you return to work,
with that little amount of sleep, good luck draining hot coolant when your sleep deprived.

A chronic sleep-restricted state can cause fatigue, daytime sleepiness, clumsiness.
not to mention it adversely affects the brain and cognitive function.

The man is a State Trooper, he operates a motor vehicle all day long,
he uses a key board while driving, along with other electronic gadgets.

He has to pay attention all day long to all sorts of things going on around him.

He's in traffic with others ... he's working while exhausted.

what part of this is it you do not understand ?

You must think it's a good idea for a pool-side life guards watching over little kids
to return to duty after only 5-6 hrs of sleep all week long ? see how that goes over!

There are laws in place to prevent work place injuries,
in this case, along with hazards to others whom
we may share our work environment with.

still Apples and Oranges to you ?

oh wait, I see your point now,
because he's a COP and that profession, would never get sleep deprived and therefor
would never ever become a hazard to the rest of the population on the road ways.

~ You know where you can stick your Apples and Oranges, right !

I'm done ... gotta get some sleep.

There aren't any time-off laws here except for a few occupations. Mine just went from 8 hours between shifts to 9. You would be surprised (maybe not) how many air traffic controllers are sleep-deprived. I have lived my life exhausted (as have most of my generation co-workers) for the past 30+ years. A career of two swings, two days and a mid (yup; 16 house of work in a 24 hour period) takes it's toll. When I worked in the private sector there were no laws governing time off between shifts. My daughter has no (time off) restrictions at her place of employment.

Things must be different being a subject of the Crown.

I agree the only ones that I know of are Pilots, ATC controllers, Mine workers, Truck drivers, and some other federal employees. I am sure that I do not know all of them but most places do not have restrictions in place (but should) and even if they are in place how many people follow them and what measures are in place to check them?

At my old part time job I was working between 12 to 16 hours a day. It was only for a few days a week but it still would take its toll. It was a family owned company so they thought they could get away with whatever they wanted to.

There is no need for name calling, you fool. I could argue a point against all of the things you just said. I won't though, because I'm getting the idea that you're one of those people that don't believe in the private enterprise system. You're the type of person that give Canadians a bad name.

I smell a socialist.

well then i would start with you ability to read then...

only a fool would confuse time off duty with hours slept at night.

at least here, our lives do consume other time than just working and sleeping (i could assist with a pie chart if it would help). there are things like feeding yourself, taking care of your family, bathing, paying bills, taking out the trash... All of which, oddly enough, can be done during time off duty but not during time that you are sleeping.

please take you soap box somewhere else, hopefully where somebody might give a sh!t about your rant.

You forgot about fapping too.

Oh man, someone who hates cops. Crazy! What has this world come too!

Where shall I start.

Yes 5-6 hours of sleep a night, not off duty time like someone else with a few more brain cells more than you pointed out. Sleep, not off duty. I actually have other things I need to do, like errands, make sure my place is clean, pay my bills, grocery shop, spend time with my girlfriend, spend time with my dog, and HEAVEN FORBID something I just simply want to do because its nice.

If you think I am pulling over Semi Trucks, than you're :q:q:q:qing high. The WV Department of transportation enforcement officers do that. There is like 50 of them for the whole state. We refer to them as "Diesel Weasels", so your misplaced aggression is much appreciated. However, I am sure you have probably never even been in this state before you went out of your way to bash my career.

Secondly, if a State Trooper pulls you over its probably for some other reason. Excessive speeding, swerving, dangerous equipment, heaven forbid we check that the reason you were swerving isn't that you haven't slept in two days. Still, I have never even heard of any Trooper in my state doing this.

The man is a State Trooper, he operates a motor vehicle all day long, he uses a key board while driving, along with other electronic gadgets

Never do I use the computer while driving, that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. 90% of the time my computer is at the office anyway, the vibrations eat harddrives for breakfast. We are also mandated by our department that we must use hands free cell phone devices, even though the state code clearly lists police officers as an exception. Oh the travesty!

You must think it's a good idea for a pool-side life guards watching over little kids to return to duty after only 5-6 hrs of sleep all week long ? see how that goes over!

Anything sounds good on the internet I suppose. I remember when I was in high school and dated a life guard, which is pretty common for life guards to be pretty young. She always got 8 hours sleep bro, everyday......

oh wait, I see your point now,
because he's a COP and that profession, would never get sleep deprived and therefor would never ever become a hazard to the rest of the population on the road ways.

Is it the safest thing? Absolutely not, is having a smaller amount of law enforcement out because of sleep rules hazardous? What do you think? I would never hope that someone, not even you, would need the police and not enough of us were available because of regulations.

Listen, I work a lot of overtime because the job dictates. I would get more sleep if people would just stop committing crimes. Sometimes I work for free because I ran out of overtime but someone needs us.

I am not going to check your logbooks, but I am sorry you have some jaded impression of police officers. I didn't make the trucking regulations, and I won't go out of my way to enforce them unless the situation dictates it.

PS: I have made pizzas on less than 8 hours of sleep many, many, many times. Never once did I get hurt in anyway. No lives were in danger during the making of these pizzas.
