What did you do to your LS today?

Weird. I'd look for some of the wiring being misrouted and rubbing against the steering column shaft.

Edit: I guess that alternately it could be a badly worn multi-function switch that is failing. Of course, the 2003 switch is different than all the other years (AFAIK), and very hard to obtain anymore.
Yeah I remember Dale was looking for one a while back, that's why I asked if he ever found a solution, ha! Mines just starting to do it, I've only noticed a couple times so far but figured the switch was getting bad. 166k miles.

Just bought one of these glorious machines for $1000 about a month ago that "needed brakes" because I knew nothing about them and just like Ford\Lincoln. My other vehicle is a 2013 f350 Platinum 6.7 powerstroke at 600hp. Turns out the Lincoln needs a lot.

Overheated on the way home which turned out to be low coolant from a split plastic pipe from thermostat to engine. That's real fun to change as I'm sure you all know, ha!

2003, V8, 160k miles, 6 disc CD changer {doesn't work, CD error}, heated and cooled seats {drivers side doesn't work}, ac doesn't work, blows hot air all the time, heater stuck on or something, View attachment 828575097

driver side window was down when I bought it so I had to fix that, passenger side broke about 5 days later I shit you not so I had to fix that too, those are kind of fun too. I did not drill out my rivets, but I definitely will be next time cuz my passenger side is messed up again already, won't go all the way up, hanging down a quarter inch so I must forgot to tighten something up. Worked good til I used the auto down and up key feature and it hasn't worked right since.

drivers side headlight low beam didn't work so I bought a new bulb for $100, it still doesn't work. Now I've discovered the rock Auto parts website so my parts costs have gone down considerably.

Had to replace both front control arms which was pretty easy actually but it pretty much needs all new suspension still.

Chrome was all peeling off the inside of the rims and rubbing on the calipers making noise. I had to clean that up which removed the wheel balance weights so I and get my wheels rebalanced. They still look pretty good on the outside actually but on the inside the chrome is completely destroyed and gone now for the most part.

Got a code p0108, had a misfire and getting crap mileage so I switched two coils and two plugs around and cleaned them a little bit cause they looked kind of dirty and helped quite a bit but now the code came back so I'm going to replace all of my plugs and springs and boots and one coil cuz one looked kind of funky.

Put on a new tensioner and idler and belt kit. got one windshield wiper installed waiting for the other one to ship from a different location{rock Auto, think I paid more for the shipping than for the wiper itself but it's still cheaper combined than buying them from AutoZone or other parts stores LOL}, got my spark plugs and one coil waiting for the rest of my coil boots and springs.

So far I just put new brake pads on the front but it needs rotors and pads all the way around, calipers are still good I believe though, going to get a brake kit off of RockAuto one of these days.

Has a few more problems I forgot to mention I'm sure. Things gonna be a money pit I'm afraid, but it's really fun to drive, I'm liking it! Im gonna try to do the work myself and get the parts from RockAuto and put some money into this biatch over time make her nice again. I see you get reman motors for like 1100 bucks, but cost $2,000 to $2,500 to get them put in so I hope this one is good for a while, haha

Anyone know how to find the code for the door keypad? on the Ford trucks it's usually on the module which is up underneath the dash by the fuse box somewhere. Thanks
First thing to understand is that these cars are much more european design than traditional ford car. It shares the DEW platform with the early 2000s Jag S-type. So its not as 'neglectable' as a taurus or something purely ford designed.

I use rock auto for part number and image reference, but often end up buying from ebay sellers. Rock auto shipping (last i used them, anyway) could quickly add up if you have items shipping from multiple warehouses. Once u have the PN, u can go find on ebay , usually cheaper, often with free shipping.

Door keypad code can be found in the owners manual. Actually i think its on a plastic card inside the manuals cover/folder thing, not in the actual book. Book also tells you how to set up a custom code

Perma-heat is amost certainly the dual climate control valve dccv. $40 for an aftermarket unit. Theres also a 10A fuse in the box under the hood (top left) that will likely need changed with the climate valve. This fixed my perma-heat, and i found out that my ac works great (reportedly, car had 'a problem with the ac' when i bought it)

In general, its usually best practice to replace all the coils in one shot. If ones on its way, chances are others are close. You get what you pay for with coils. Those el cheapo ones will prob fail in a year or two. Better off to pony up for reputable brand or OE

At 160k, it sounds like you should figure on doing all the 100k+ maintenance thats been pushed off by the previous owner. Suspension, fluids, some sensors, brakes. Can add up quickly if you dont DIY. But if you do it yourself and shop around, the upkeep isnt too bad, and it is pretty fun drive.

I just put struts and top arms w ball joints on mine at 150k for about 350ish. Nothing excetional, but helped the car a lot. 40 in oil change. $100 tops in dccv, radio mount kit, and other odds n ins. Im about to put 400 in tires on it and that ought to have it riding nice. Need to service the auto trans this summer too.

Yea that post was from like 6 months ago, got it mostly fixed now, few more little details but it's a pretty fun to drive car for sure. I've got new rims and rubber also. Can take the 45mph curves at 85mph now!

Nothing! But on the 15th Black Beauty got a bath and vacuuming, on the 16th a body wax and on the 17th I tried make a sequel to 'a short tour of my manual 2000 Lincoln LS', but it rained twice after starting shooting. I succeeded on the the 18th and will post the results as soon as I have time to figure out how to download it from my camera to my computer. The interior was Armouralled after 'filming'. Today I photographed our '95 Escort wagon 'Mr. White'.

It has been occurring to me that our newest car is 21 years old, and the car I drive most is 26. Am I abnormal in doing this? Years ago I drove my '56 Ranch Wagon daily until it was 35 years old without a second thought for the same reason, it was so reliable, why get anything else? In case your wondering, I quit driving the '56 when we moved east, I didn't want to expose it to the road salt, then it was infested with mice (& not kind found in '90's Escorts).

Turned it on for the first time in months. Oil in at least one of the plug wells.

Certain position as in up/down tilt and/or in/out telescope? If so, this would likely be an issue with the wiring to the connector to the multi-function switch or even might be that the connector isn't fully seated. Remove the two screws that face down from the bottom half of the column trim cover, then snap the two cover halves apart. Then you should be able to get to the connector and wiring.

Thanks Joe! My Turn Signal is acting weird; Having to push that 'Ball Looking Socket; at times where the arm connects to the Steering Colum to keep working. This diagram helps as I was wondering if it was going to be involved with the Air Bag.. Like I need this kind of 'Take for granted' problem.
Out of all of my other vehicles I have never had a turn signal problem other than due to a replacement flasher. This car is driving me crazy!

Took her to 110,000 miles...reluctantly. She's been a feisty one, but I hope to have her money eating ways (temporarily) tamed when my next paycheck comes! Gonna bring her to the shop that the 2nd owner took her to ever since he got it 15 years ago.

Ordered the part to fix my problem with water getting into the spark plug wells and fouling the COP's out.

Made a rookie mistake when attempting to fix my wiper cowl leak, completely broke the clips on both cowl pieces.

I do not belong near a car. Oh well,, time to go scrounge the local salvage yards.

Today I drove it! :) Hadn't in a month or two. Cause the driver's window fell into the door. Again. I think it's happened almost 1/2 dozen times since I bought it new. Like to send Will Smith to the home of whoever designed this mechanism.

OK anyway it gets worse. No the LS didn't fail me. I failed me. Cause I found yesterday my registration renewal form for it. It had arrived around Christmas. Fees were due in Feb. :( But worse again I have to jump through the hoops created by the AHs who run this state. I gotta get it smogged. Now when I put it away and when I drove to the smog station today it had (has) a check engine light. Well I know what it is - a tiny Evap leak which I've been unable to fix. Good news is that is the ONE failure the car can have and still pass smog.

So off I went. Got there and said - well it's got a check engine light but it's only the evap system, tiny leak. Like two years ago when I came here you guys passed it. But guy says - well if it's got a CE light on, it fails. BUT - its only for evap which is ignored. Nope. I can reset the light I say. If you do that you gotta drive it for 100+ miles to see if the CE light comes back on. Great. At $6 gallon for reg, I gotta blow off about 5 gals to do this. = $30+. :( Then pay $60+ for smog. Ah California. I think I might jack the rear up and run it in 4th for 80 miles. Probably use less gas and waste less time that way.

OK sorry for the long - wait - I also wanted to say how much fun I had drivin it, running it through the gears, both front windows down, wind in my - on my head. Loved it.

Man, I sooo feel this. My driver door regulator was supposedly replaced at 90k miles if I go by the Carfax, but at 113k it's already making squeaky noiises when I roll down my window on cold nights.

Well, I thought I smelled something funny this morning when I got in the LS.

Turns out, that something's phucked, cause the passenger side floor carpet is about as soaked as the entirety of Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.

#1 suspect would be that the moonroof drain hose has pulled free at the front right corner. Feel the right A pillar. Is is wet too?
