My 2004 V8 with 281k miles threw a P0022 (Over retarded) code yesterday. The car seemed to be running fine with no missing. After researching, the oil is clean and full. Looking at the connector, the green wire casing was split and I could see bare wire inside. I wrapped the green wire with some electrical tape and cleared the code to see if that may have fixed it. Pulling into the driveway this evening, the car was really running rough. I checked the codes and P0021 (Over advanced). Is there a way to check continuity of the entire length of wire to the PCM or close to it? Or is this a VCT solenoid issue?
I just replaced the front cover and head gaskets. There was no visible damage to the secondary chain tensioner and the chain was tight so my best guess is either a wiring issue or the VCT (or is it a VVT? my manual says VCT but Rockauto says VVT).
Not a very common code...I did do a search prior to posting.
