Well ... Last Saturday was a great day ...

As some of you long time member may remember Track and Field is a part of our family heritage.

Our oldest Daughter earned All-American honors in 2006 and ever since our youngest daughter has been trying to follow in her shoes.

Well this past Saturday her efforts were rewarded ...

At the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship she and her 4 x 400 meter relay team earned all American Honors by finishing 7th overall.

She was very proud of her accomplishmets and so are we.

First they were ranked 10th going into the meet. Normally NCAA takes only 10 team so they were excited for qualifying for the National Meet. Top 8 teams are All-American so they would have to beat 3 teams to score and get on the podium.

But to through a wrench into there chances of making All-American NCAA took 11 teams this year. This caused for 3 heets instead of the normal 2 heets, and Cassie's team would be in the slow heet and only 3 teams would be in their heet. Now they would have to beat both teams in there heet and then hope that their time would be faster than at least one team in the 2nd or 3rd heet and their heet would be first so they wouldn't get the advantage of knowing what time they need to beat.

Well the race started off well with their first runner taking a slight lead as she handed off the batton to their 2nd runner. The second runner extended the lead to about 15 to 20 meters, and then handed off to Cassie. Cassie increase the lead a little then handed off to their best runner and anchor. Well buy the first curve both teams passed our runner and things looked glum, but in the last 100 meters our anchor came back from being down about 10 meters to take a 5 meter lead to the finish.

So two teams were under their belt now it was the wait so see if their time would be better than at least one team from the next two heets.

In the second heet the stress was there. The girls were worried. Their time was a National qualifying time but it wasn't a strong time. The next heet had to be slow. And three of the team seemed to be struggling. As the race finished and the time started to be posted ... a loud cheer went up from our girls as the their time beat two of the teams from the second heet. They were "All-Americans" They finished 7th over all coming in ranked 10th.

It was a rush ...
