I see... I would rather have the ring and filter securely attached than have the filter fall out, that can be much more devastating.

It was funny, when he pulled the filter out..
I said.. does it have the orange grommet/oring attached?

Apparently the gasket they give you in the kit is a POS because the pan is leaking. When I change the fluid again in another tank of gas I'm going to switch back to the stock gasket.
 
Never EVER ditch the stock rubber over metal gasket for that POS cork stuff.

If your fluid was really really bad it might be worth while to take the pan off again and change the filter in 500 miles, there might be gunk in there still.
 
yea the stock gasket is a nice piece, I re-use them all the time.
