It helps to equalize pressure in both banks of exhaust (passenger and driver sides) and it helps scavenge the exhaust from side to side. That will increase HP slightly since the exhaust is not sitting stagnent on one side, and the engine does not have to overcome that pressure differential since the opposite side helped remove what exhaust gasses that were sitting there.

i noticed in your sig you have a magnaflow 3rd cat.... what do you think? worth it? I would do an X pipe but unfortunately we have emissions inspections every year in CT so i have to have something there. Just curious because i was thinking about getting one.

You will not fail emissions.
Many people, including myself, remove the 3rd cat and resonator, and replace it with a 2 in, 2 out muffler with an internal x-pipe. Dynomax makes the Ultra-Flo X, and Magnaflow also has a model as well.

they dont do the sniffer here on OBDII cars... they do a scan for codes then a visual to make sure all your emissions equipment is there. This means i have to have somehting in place of the 3rd cat that at least looks like a cat hahah and can't throw a code.
By taking off the third cat it will not throw a code. There are no sensors after the third cat. So there for you won't fail an emissions test.

Its one cat per pipe. You would pass the visual too. Our twin xx cat back passes all day in NJ andwere one of the toughest States out there as far as emissions go.

hmmm the exhaust shop near me wouldnt remove the 3rd cat cause he said i need it to pass the visual.... maybe theyre just afraid of liability issues in messing with emissions stuff. I'll have to look further into it.

Cut it off yourself or find another shop that will do it.
I like the Magnaflow high flow 3rd cat, it acts just like a crossover pipe, helps keep the exhaust from being too loud and I still pass smog no problem. My exhaust setup would be too loud with an x pipe because I have no mufflers.

No Muffler shop that follows the law would remove it! They can be fined thousands of dollars. You will have to remove it yourself. It is actually the main CAT. The two smaller ones upstream are warm up CAT's, They help the main CAT warm up faster to reduce emissions faster after a cold start up.
However without the MAIN CAT the car will still pass the emissions test if it's warmed up.
