Would you buy this car as an LS replacement?

It's the European 2007 Ford Mondeo, photoshopped as a Mercury, but I think it would sell great in the US in a souped up version in the Lincoln line, even as an LS replacement. IMO, it looks better than the MKS prototype. And if not LS replacement, then a much better version of the MKZ.

I think the car looks sexy as hell, and Ford is too boneheaded to bring its Euro line over to the states. It was also featured in the new Bond movie, Casino Royale.
 
That movie sucked BTW. A two hour Poker game, not for me.

Well, I wouldn't give my LS up for that. The only Ford sedan I'd trade the LS on, would the that Australian Ford TS50. Do they still call it that?

Is that the same as the Falcon series of cars down there with the turbocharged engines? Or am I thinking GM/Holden?
 
Ford's luck with bringing Euro Fords to the US has been, well, let's just say it hasn't been very good. Downright crappy, in fact.

Mulally is going to be pushing for more global unification of Ford, and J Mays is now a corporate officer in the global organization (in charge of all of Ford's design units), so it's possible that we could start seeing some of those European Fords start making their way over here.

But you won't see a Mondeo over here any time soon--it would be in direct competition with the Fusion, Milan, and MKZ. Those cars are making money for Ford, so muddying the waters is the last thing they need to do right now.

I think the Fusion is doing ok, but not as well as say a combo of the Euro Focus and Mondeo and S-Max could do. I think they may go the route of importing the European cars once they see that GM's turning Saturn into Opel is doing pretty well.

Yeah, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush: the Fusion, Milan, and MKZ are making money, and the Euro Fords might make money. At this point, in the beginning stages of a $21 billion reorganization, they would need an airtight, ironclad case for Federalizing a European Ford and dropping a known profitable seller. (There's no way they could sell the Mondeo and the CD3 triplets here; they'd split the limited sedan market and wind up losing money on all of them.)

From what I've seen in the press, with Mulally and Fields calling the shots, it looks like the Euro Focus is back on the boards for Federalization, so there's a chance that part of your idea will come to fruition.

And, IIRC, the flow for GM is from Saturn to Opel, not vice versa...

Well, according to last month's sales figures, Mercury was losing $$. So the Milan isn't doing well enough, or else they need more to spice up their line.

The flow is from Opel to Saturn- they're importing the Opel Astra as a 2008 Saturn model (to replace the Ion), and the new Saturn Aura is based on the Opel Vectra?, and they're going to import the Opel Antara at a later date. Initial reviews of the Saturn Aura have been very positive.

Ford doesn't seem to understand what makes any of the euro or aussie fords appealling. So they redo the car while federalizing it and turn it into more us trash.

frankly I hope the rumors about the Falcons coming here are true. They would be a great replacement the LS and I would snap at least one up (as long as the manual trans and the v8 stay that is).

Mercury may be losing money, but the Milan is profitable.
 
I heard somewhere that the falcons stopped comming over here because they didnt sell well. Now look. I wish I could get my hands on a falcon.

That's not correct--the Australian Falcon never came over here. The Ford Falcon of the '60s (the foundation of the original Mustang) bears no relation to the Australian Ford Falcon.
 
I wanted the Mondeo from a good few years ago(saw it on a British Racing program on Speed), I believe it was pretty much our Contour SVT, I hope to find one in good shape down the road.
 
Yes, the Mondeo was the European Contour/Mistique. I wish FORD would quite ending production of great cars, like the Contour and the LS and redesign them like other Brands are doingto their car lines.
 
I got a nice chuckle from the pic. It was taken from Windsor, Canada (the city in which i live in). Atleast the background was taken from Canada. Looking at Detroit from Windsor, across the water. Its called the Renaissance Center and its owned by GM not Ford. Just thought i would share some useless knowledge about the pic. Anyways i think the car is ugly as hell.

One of my customers has the Pursuit, almost looks like a mustang/rancharo and another has the gt-p too bad they are all right hand drive and cannot be exported here to the states.
