I replaced my passenger window regulator on my 03 LS today, but I am having issues with the window rolling up and down. I have read many threads and haven't found any with the exact issue I am having.

So the install was not difficult at all, but did take a couple of hours. I had to remove the window motor from my broken regulator and install on the new regulator. I replaced with dealer part #WLR-65

My biggest issue is that when the window is rolled all the way down, it sticks out above the frame about 2-3 inches. I attached the glass to the clips on the regulator correctly and as far down as possible.

Has anyone ever had this issue with a regulator install??....Does the motor have an actual mechanical stop where it can only travel one direction so far or is it able to completely spin freely as long as it doesn't "see" resistance??

I also am having trouble with the Auto up feature when rolling up my window...it rolls completely up and then comes down to about 3/4 and stops. This I know (from reading posts) has to do with needing to reinitialize / program the motor. I have tried the program instructions: roll all the way down, and then all the way up holding for 2-5 seconds, but this did not work. I have also read that I may need to remove the motor from the regulator and hold the up button and then re-attach. I have not tried this, because this means completely taking the regulator back out. I have also read that disconnecting the battery might help.

Can the auto up feature also affect how far down it will roll the window??

if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. thanks.

Update:

Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting didn't help. :(

Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks

There is a procedure to fix this, had to use it on my brothers 03 ls to get the auto to work right, I'm gonna try to google it for you

you have to press it down and hold it down till its all the way down and then press down again, but im not sure its been a while....

I think that you are going to have to re-index the motor to the regulator.

Lower the window all the way with the switch.

Press and hold the switch in the auto up position. Continue to hold the switch until five seconds after the window is all the way closed. The auto up/down functions should work correctly after that.

He's already done the reinitialize procedure.

Thanks for the response lincoln ls_250k....joegr is right....I have tried this and it doesn't seem to work.

When your brother had this issue, was the window rolling all the way down within the door?? or just up and then half way down when using auto feature?...

Mine sticks out almost 3 inches....

I think you are right. I was hoping to avoid having to disassemble and re-assemble.....always worries me that new issues will arise (stripped screws, something breaks, etc.....)....

Have you ever seen the issue where the window doesn't roll completely down??

I've read people having this issue when not inserting the window correctly into the window clamps, but 2-3 inches is a lot....There's definitely not that much room to play within the clamp....

UPDATE:

Finally got some time to re-address this issue over the weekend. (I've been driving around without a passenger door panel for over a month now, ha.)

Just wanted to post the output in case anyone sees this issue with their LS.

I detached the motor from the regulator and ran the motor in the up direction. The motor DOES NOT have a mechanical stop, it will keep spinning and spinning as long as the window switch is pressed. I fully expected it to have a mechanical stop, which would explain why it stopped short on the low-end from lack of travel, but it does not.

1) With the motor detached, I just ran the motor in the up direction in 20 second presses for a total of about a minute. (I did 20 seconds, because it's probably not a good idea to initialize the motor for a minute straight, might burn it up (IMO)). (Not exactly sure how long you should press the switch in the up direction, I just chose one minute randomly, seemed like enough)

2) Reassembled the motor to the regulator and re-installed the regulator to window (with the window in the closed position, all the way up) and bam! it worked. Well almost. Window rolled-up and stopped at top, when rolling to the bottom, window stopped about 1/4 of an inch from completely rolling down.

3) Performed the re-initialize procedure of the motor "Press and hold the switch in the auto down position until all the way down. Then press and hold the switch in the auto up position. Continue to hold the switch until five seconds after the window is all the way closed." Now the window completely rolls up and down correctly.

The fact that the motor does not have a stop, yet still would not allow the window to roll all the way down in the first attempt, does not make a whole lot of sense to me, but either way the above fixed the issue.

I know others have posted similar processes to fix similar issues, but I didn't see any posts with fixes for the issue of the window not rolling down completely.

Hope this helps.
